Hi Guys

Been a long time since i have posted here and really need some help before i have to put my hand in my pocket.

Im having the engine vault code 17544 on a Seat Leon Cupra '02' Plate which apparently is

17544 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean

I have been told its okay to drive but the MPG will go up alot, which it has been doing after all i need to get to work to pay to repair this :/ however after about 15mins traveling to work i can smell fuel when i have the climate control on which has lead me to believe its possibly the MAF sensor being faultly is this likely at all? but at 59.50 + Vat i want to make sure its this before shelling out the money for this.

From reading around i have heard it could be a number of things.

The Car is slightly overdue for a serivce and someone said a blocked oil filter could cause it? again i dont know how likely this is.

It could be a leak in the hoses: I have looked at all the hoses and cant notice anything directly, any pointers of exactly where and what i should be looking for would be great

someone else i have spoken to has mentioned it could be the air filter but again its look all normal.

Any help you can give guys would be great :D

I've read about it being the vacuum pipes too, check any little ones connected to the inlet manifold, all the connectors etc, remembe to check the underside and any hidden bits too. Also check where any pipes go near anything hot or any pulleys. The cheapest option to look for anyway. You should be able to test the maf with vagcom too, not sure how you do it on the petrol cars but you might find info on the rosstech wiki site.

Okay i will look into checking those hoses, i dont actually own a VAG-COM device my friend has a code reader and that all it will do unfortunately :(
