id say thats about right at 60mph you will get between 32/36 say, ive never got no more than that.but then when you move into the 80 mph then its another story i find.......if petrol was 99p a litre thought i dont even think we would think twice at how much mpg we get.......evos arejust a joke on petrol and as for supras.......

It wasn't even hitting low 30s at 60, and at 80 we were talking about 26... I've found the problem though, now my vac leak is sorted I am back on normalish figures - 80mph is pretty much bang on 30mpg on a long run from Yorkshire to Somerset and sitting at 60 slipstreaming behind lorries I can start hitting mid 40s (remember that hills make a huge difference to MPG so to get an accurate reading you need to be going a good few miles to average it out a bit or know the road is completely flat).

mate if you think your trip computer is 100% accurate then your having the laugh, normally there a couple of MPG out if not a few

I didn't say they were 100% accurate, but they are a damn sight more accurate than roughly working out how far 20 quid has got you - How are you working out that the £20 you put in has been used up? Using the fuel gauge which is much less accurate than the trip computer? Then roughly guessing that it has dropped to the point at which you filled up? Then driving to the nearest petrol station which could be 1 mile or 40 miles away... Hardly scientific is it?

If you want to work out your MPG you need to fully brim your tank (including expansion tank) and reset your mileage counter, drive round until the tank is as empty as possible to minimise discrepancies in before/after filling levels, then re-brim your tank (including expansion tank again). Then work out MPG based on how much you have used for your mileage.

ive just filled it up now. £70.08, i will be driving it normally not milking it changing gear at every 2.5 revs, round town driving mostly what is a normal figure to get out of this full tank?

Good stuff - did you fill the expansion tank as well? - There's a little lever on the left hand side of the filler neck that you push down towards the tank, be careful though as there's a non-return flap just below it so if you use the end of the pump you can easily end up with a load of splashback! Shell pumps have a strategically placed notch halfway down that you can use to vent while you fill which is much easier...

As mentioned, 300 is about right for a full tank, if you hoon it everywhere and are heavy on the brakes you can knock 50 miles off easy enough, and if you're steady away on a full on eco run you can break into the 400s.

To give a rough idea,

55 litre tank is 12.1 gallons

12.1 x 20 = 242 so if you have a heavy foot and average 20mpg you will return about 240 miles

12.1 x 35mpg = 423.5miles if you take it steady and get 35 to the gallon out of it.

Just returned from a visit to my dad who's house is 243 mile round trip and I used half a tank after brimming it. Doesn't seem any worse than my old Mk4 2.0 golf

Also that chap who said he gets 100 miles off £20 from his Cupra R if that is around town driving i really do struggle to believe that

If your quoting me then do the Math £20 at £1.30 a litre is 15 litres which I make at 3.4 gallons. All you need to hit is 30mpg to achieve 100 miles. Oh and I put £20 when fuel light on and then calculate mileage when it is back on. Trip computer I find reads 5% over what you actually get.

Just be lucky you have an R at 18! I am at 21

what do you guys get from the very last line to the 3/4 line from full? i got 80-90 miles ish, is that about right?

The tank is a funny shape, so you'll get 100 miles when it's brimmed before the needle barely moves.

Each quarter is then about 80-90 miles worth of petrol.

£75 filled tank on my cupra r, about town I get about 21mpg and on a run il see 30mpg.

mate end of the day at your age be happy you have a car like that,let alone how much petrol you use.tbh if your looking into getting good (mpg )say get a desiel or a 1.4 petrol or a 1.L.
look at it like this if the car didnt have a trip comp would you know any diffrent on how good your car was on pertol you put the petrol on the car and drive off.
i wonder if the people who own say a twin turbo rs4 or a supra are worried about the cost of petrol.....
if you wanna compare then my bros rx7 he has brought a few wks ago is at a guess doing about 20 miles to a gallon....so its not all bad the days of getting say 25/26 litres from £20 has long gone.................... the main issue is not how much mpg your getting but the cost of the petrol in the 1st place
