I thought I should come back to this thread and post an update that will hopefully help others in the future looking for this information;
Basically, what happened what I phoned the mechanic and he advised he suggested a change ~100,000 miles because he thought it would have been done at 50k and then should be done at 100k.
I then phoned the Seat dealership where the service and timing belt change was done in September 2010 (at 60k) and they advised that Seat *changed* their recommendation over the past 18-24 months to change the timing belt every 40k on every Seat.
Considering the car is still the same car as it was when it was registered in late 2008, then I see no reason to change from the 60k miles interval for a timing belt change. Unless anyone knows otherwise?
In the instance i'm going to wait for another 10,000 miles, which will take it to 110k, before I do a timing belt change.

Fine, but you are going against Seat's advice and that's your choice. There are plenty of threads arguing for and against, but as I said in a previous post, it's byebye engine if you backed the wrong horse.
Just been reading all the posts on here. If its recommended that a belt be changed at 40000 miles then my advice is pay it and get it done. There's obviously a reason why it's been reduced. Yes it means more profit in servicing but who said VAG will get the work!? I wonder how many drivers generally have had the balls to admit they should have had a belt change sooner after their engine has blown up because they didn't get it done? Doubt they will be gloating about it on here do you!?
Also noticed that the figure 60000 is mentioned. Is there some confusing with miles and kilometres by any chance?
Funny how so many drivers on here ( on the site ) are willing to spend loads on beefing up their sound system but to pay for a worthy precautionary belt change suddenly seems too expensive!?

Can someone to explain me why the timing belt have to be replaced after 4 years or 60000 miles what to comes first.
I am aware of that after 60000 miles is the timing belt worn but after 4years if my car has just done for example 40000 miles it means the belt is not worn and I still can drive 20.000 miles to bring it for replace.
I can`t understand why after 4 years if the car has done just 40.000 miles

If you're 2.0 TFSI then yeah according to the manual.
There is the feeling that it should be changed after 5 years or 120k whichever is first I believe.
