Cheers.

Basically ive got laquer peeling off my front bumber. Took it to Listers in Coventry, where i purchased the car from, and they said take it to the Listers bodyshop. The guy there said that the bumper had been repaired previously and not done so very well so thats why it was peeling. He also added that to repair this would not be covered under warranty. Now this seems a little dodgy as the previous owners of the car were, low and behold, SEAT UK. [:@]

I had a remarkably similar scenario with the same dealer. It's a long story that i haven't got time to type up right now but if you come to the Brum meet i'll tell you there

How old is the car?

Try taking it to Francis SEAT in Leicester. The service is infinately more polite and professional and they helped me get my paint work sorted with the aid of an independant paint expert when Listers tried telling me my car was supposed to be different colours (and i'm not just talking about the plastics)

The car is a 54 plate. I did consider taking it to Francis in Leicester as I have had warranty work done from there before, but was kind of passing Listers and took it in. (Big Mistake)!!

All paintwork warranty stuff is dealt with by John at Francis and he's the gaffer there. A real geniune guy who understands the meaning of customer service. Vince on the service desk is helpful too.

Hopefully this isn't the case for you, however there is something you should know about nearly new 'management' cars that are registered to the manufacturer.

I used to work for a company that got all it's company cars through a national car hire company. We were given brand new cars to run every 12 weeks, then they were swapped out for new ones. The cars were never serviced, and if they were damaged they were repaired at a local bodyshop of dubious quality before they were handed back to the hire company.
I often handed cars back that 6k miles + overdue for a first service. I asked one of the guys at the hire company how they could afford to let them get like that, he told me that the hire company only leased the cars from the manufacturers, and after the 12 weeks was up they went back. He implied that the service books were always stamped before they go to the customer.

I must admit that I never given a Seat, they were normally Renaults, Peugeots, Ford, Nissan and VW's.

Update -

Just come back from the Coventry Stealers and this is what they had to say......

Sorry sir but there is nothing we can do. There is a guy who is a bit of an expert on paint who comes here on Tuesdays, if you pop back then, we can get him to have a look for you and possibly do a "quick fix" on the bumper.

WTF, QUICK FIX?? Isnt that whats already been done to the fcuking bumper!............. Are these guys cowboys or what??

I think a trip to Francis Seat is on the cards...

Mate thats total F**king bollox! Call Seat UK and have this out with them!

Dont know if your aware of my little problem with my ex Seat UK LCR? To cut a very long story short my car had been totally resprayed...at some point! I demanded the car to be changed, and it was. You got your car from a Seat dealer right? and wasnt told it had been repaired? Well in that case your in your right to claim under the paint warrenty! If not, the dealer must repair it! How long you had it????

Mate dont take any sh1t and go back to the dealer and demand it to be sorted! Or just call Seat UK and bring it up with them... you paid good money for it, dont give up!!!

I feel for ya, I really do :(

Yeah i'm pretty fcuked off to be honest. Ive had the car a year now and it was bought from the Coventry dealership.

I will phone Seat UK tomorrow and complain, threaten to write to Watchdog, Trading Standards and everything else. They are a bunch of t0ssers at the Coventry dealership.

Trading Standards will just tell you to write Listers a letter stating what the problem is and (reasonable) date when you want it to be rectified.

Speak directly to Richard Newbold (dealer principal) at Listers and if you have no joy go to Terry Lister directly. Personally, i'd go to Francis and save yourself the hassle

Yeah Francis Seat might be the safe bet. I guess they will be my next step.

Do I have to book the car in at Francis or can I just take it in whenever?

Give them a call 0116 257 5222 and explain the paint issue to them fully and say you'd like them to have a look at it. Like I said before, John deals with all the paintwork defects so you want to go when he's there. He might suggest a solution straightaway or it may need to be referred to an independant company but they can arrange for the independant inspection to take place at your work place if necessary.

Just bear in mind they're nothing to do with Listers so dont take out your frustrations on them, be polite and firm and i'd hope you'd find them as helpful as i did.

Good luck :)
