at least try the unblocking pipe and letting it idle suggestion above before getting a new engine ??

45 minutes driving with the oil warning light on though!!! Am sure there must be a lesson to learn here somewhere :)

Hope its not as bad as expected though mate

I had another 1.8T in today, rattling its tits off and oil pressure light on.

replaced oil pump and pickup pipe, and its sorted.

2 in one week, this is common.

You will get away with just replacing the pickup pipe, very simple job and cheap too.

Do this first before condeming your motor.

PS when speaking to the customer today, he said he has been driving his car for over a month with the light on as he thought it was an electrical problem (even though it was very noisey) but it did have 2 Bar of pressure, not the 7 BAR it requires so wasn't running dry.

ive just had a vw mechanic come and have a listen to it (a friend of my dad) hes gonna tow it friday, and check the turbo first to make sure there is no damage there then change oil pump and a mesh filter or something, that'l cost me about £200 including parts so i have everything crossed that its nothing more savere than that, also he said when the pump goes you get that kind of noise even if there is no further damage to the engine. cheers for your imput guys ill let you know the outcome.

so its not always instant damage to the engine then? i really hope ive gotten away with it whatever happens its a lesson learnt, if it is dead ill have to get a cupra r i think.

Not always as the customer today had been driving a long time with next to no pressure. I think you will be fine mate. I will put £ 10 quid on it.

Am I the only 1 here that would stop car the instant the oil pressure light came on???
No oil pressure means dead engine turbo very quickly... Ok so people have been lucky that they're still getting some oil pressure but Its an oil pressure light not a gauge so i'd assume that there was no pressure and switch off instantly.....

yeah ok i think ive realised that now, im after opinions of the damaged that i may have caused the car, trust me all ive thought is what a twat why didnt you just pull over but i didnt so now ive got to deal with it. and cupra matt if i get away with this ill be giving you £10 mate.

sorry cupramatt forgot to ask did these cars you have delt with have a big loss of power? does that go with no oil pressure? or does that point more to damage to engine? cheers

I know how you feel mate i thought a simple coilpack was on its way out after misfiring under load a couple times, long story but my engine needed a rebuild because I didnt do anything about it early enough, £1200 was a hard lesson learnt!
Hope yours is an easy fix though, sounds like matt has sussed it :)

I wouldn't of thought a lack of power would be caused by the low pressure, unless the engine is getting tight.

More than likely to be another fault.

Is it just low on power or now struggling to run..

If just a lack of power you might still be fine (things crossed for you)
If its a lack of power and the engine struggling to hold an idle then chances are the oil pressure has got to low and things are starting to nip up..... If you've got to that stage you might want to try sourcing a new engine rather than getting yours re-built because it'll probably cost you less in the long run.....

Is it just rattling or can you hear the bottom end rumbling??

the car starts and idles fine just very noisy, it will still accelerate but just slowly and not in time with the turbo if that makes sence? (turbo sucking in air but no acceleration to go with it)

Oh Yes The Cupra Will Be Back Tommorrow New Oil Pump And A Couple Of Other Parts And All Sorted £160 For Parts And £80 Labour Im Well Pleased.
