Before anyone yells at me,i have done a search n think i've got the main jist of what's what but couple of questions...

Had the car 4yrs now and she's going in to be serviced in the next week or 2 and get all brakes done, discs n pads, the guy that's doing it is someone my dad knows but i'd like to get all the relevant parts so i know that they're decent bits being put on n not cheap crap marked up 100% profit, just in case....however i seem to have mislaid any paperwork for works carried out since i had her, dads friends prob didn't get any!!! Had cambelt changed when i got her as i recall and serviced, she was on apx 50k,now on 78k ish 4yrs on,have had work done as said but as time goes so fast no idea when.......therefore what i need to know is what parts should i toddle of n get myself?? Do i need to get oil/coolants or just let him do that sorta stuff? Can you tell if the cambelt needs doing and when should it be done again,is it 40k intervals?

Gsf or europarts, have both within easy reach although ep only have ate brakes n i wanted brembo standards! gsf have to order in standard discs tho so will have to do a return journey to collect....

Daren't order online as when i went before the guy told me i was changeover year n he needed my brake codes, which ones are these on the boot sticker, does anyone know, there's about 30groups of 3numbers on it? It's a 98regd rplate 8v cupra sport gti, they told me one catalogue code and Andyj said another, one digit difference but don't wanna get stuck with a) incorrect set n be without car b) get charged gsf's 25% or whatever skanky restock fee if they need to go back...

what are the recommended parts to replace on a big service and roughly how many hrs labour would i be looking at for all this? plus there's loadsa other bits i want him to do whilst she's in...2nd mortgage time!!

So,is there a complete list of purchases needed for a major service on here anywhere rather than threads with bits on each post??

Sorry to go on people, but may as well try n get it all out the way:whistle:
Grateful for your help as always...

the cam belt needs changing every 40k, so would be best to change it now, along with the other auxillary belts (power steering etc).

also change:-
oil filter
oil, 5-40w semi-synthetic (Quantum Synta from VW is good)
Air Filter
Spark Plugs
Pollen Filter (if there is one??)
Front pads & Discs
Rear Pads & Discs.
Front & rear wheel bearings if changing the discs.
Top mounts if there is excessive movement in the front shock absorbers.

If you have all of this done probably looking at 15 - 20 hours, depending upon how good your mechanic is.

probably forgotten a few bits, I sure there are other bits too.

Ouchy! What's average labour fee per hour these days? Work n parts will be more than car value at this rate, plus putting on coilies, relaying the hids n window mechanism replace,so make that about 3days....n then gotta pay for me rims to be done....BIG OUCH!:cry:

15-20 hours :-o na, I'd say more like 10 max
I done my rear pads & discs and oil & filter yesterday and I'd say onlt took 1.5 hors max with a cuppa break and I'm not a mechanic.

You could easly do front and rear breaks + oil & filter + plugs in 3 hours if your a mechanic. Hardest bit I'd say would be wheel bearings and top mounts (which I'm doing in the morning on the gf mk4 Golf), and not sure about the pollen filter though.

Just my opinion :D
