Servicing Interval Confusion?

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie to the forum having only owned my Leon for a couple of weeks (apologies in advance if I post this in the wrong place or if this issue has already been covered).

I've got a Mk3 Seat Leon SC 184 FR DSG in Monsoon Grey. It has the Alcantara Interior, Technology Pack, Convenience Pack, Tailgate Spoiler and 18" Performance alloys :D Since owning it I have changed all interior lights to LEDs and had the carbon-fibre look-alike FR key cover fitted. I'll post some pictures of the car soon.

When reading through the manual and other correspondences, I noticed there seems to be two different service routes available - Long life servicing which is every 20,000 miles or 2 years; and fixed time/distance servicing which is every year or 10,000 miles. I checked the computer system within the car (Access it through 'CAR' menu > Setup > Service) and it says my car is due a service in 13,000 miles (the car currently has 5,000 miles on it as I bought it as a demonstrator). Now from that information, it would suggest my car is on the long life servicing, however my servicing book does not clarify which method has been selected.

I called Seat UK customer services and they informed me that my car is down as 'flexible servicing' on there system. The gentleman who I spoke to confirmed that this means servicing needs to takes places every year or 10,000 miles.

So... do I got with the information given on the computer system in my car or with the information given to me by Seat customer services? Do all cars not come set up from the factory to be long life initially? Does flexible servicing mean every year at 10,000 miles? I would normally go with the information given on the dash display but I don't want my warranty to be voided if I do not service the car properly.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Graeme

I picked my FR up 1 month ago. I checked the 'in car' service schedule and it said next service was due in 20000 miles. I had asked the dealer when I picked it up when to service it and he said it was every year or 10000.

I checked with him again and he said to keep the warranty, it was every year or 10000.

I have found the website and manual to be confusing on a number of matters.

If you've already done 5k miles and the computer indicates 13k more till service then that would indicate your car is on the flexible/long life regime. Usually 18-20k miles or 24 months, whichever happens first.

Both my mk3 Leons were set to flexible servicing by default so I can't see how not having it set to 10k/fixed servicing would effect your warranty.

Having been told your car is defo on a flexible/long life service regime then getting told it needs to be serviced every 10k miles is mental!

Sounds typical of SEAT dealers and UK CS not having a f'ing clue.

When I bought my FR 184 DSG as new last year. Mine was set to the 1 year 10,000 mile service. The dealership also put a sticker on my windscreen also informing me of the next service and first MOT. On the back it has the SEAT Breakdown on it. So maybe not all dealerships do this then? Could be down to what mileage your doing?

Sounds like your dealer has about as much idea on the subject as my dealer and Seat UK CS put together i.e. feck all.

Thanks for your reply mate. I think what confused me was when I spoke to the SEAT UK CS advisor and he tried to tell me that being on 'flexible' meant that it was due a service every 10K miles or year.

If you are sure that being on 'flexible' means long life regime, then I will comply with the information on the dash screen in my car. Thanks for clearing that up :)

I do low miles approx 10k pa and most are motorway miles. My car is set to long life servicing. Does this fit with my driving style?

Maybe. Probably depends on your driving style. If you're mainly driving at a steady speed long life may be ok.

If you are on the wrong one, the car will flag up an oil change long before the time/mileage that you would expect of the longlife regime.

Not SEAT specific but having owned several VAG cars for the last 10 years this is the gist of their service regimes

Thanks a lot, exactly what I was looking for :D
