Iam thinking of rotating the tyres (front to back) periodically on my petrol FR to both make it longer to replacing them and because eventually i would like to replace the pirellis with a tyre that has the alloy protecting rim protector on them would anyone know the best mileage to move them around for the first time? Iam guessing the fronts wear quickly so i thought when the car had 5000 miles on it????

I have been rotating the tyres on my TDI, purly because I prefer to change all 4 together.

I rotated fronts to rear on about 15,000 and then replaced all 4 at 30,000 (OEM Brigestones). The current Continentals are wearing at around the same rate, and have been rotated, oposing corner to corner (they are non directional). I hope to replace these with Dunlop Sports.

I hope my fronts make 10k to be honest.. not impressed with the wear at all..

But - I will shift the rears to the front in a few months, then replace them all together..

well it depends how you drive, my fronts wore out in under 9k, but the rears may be 20k

AR_CoolC what size wheels do you have? my fronts only lasted 12,000 and my driving is mainly motorway and A roads. Only have the 17" wheels with the pirelli's but now got dunlops and so far they seem pretty good.

I also have the 17's. The originals were Brigestone's that lasted 30,000 miles, which I though was about right. 12,000 does seem very low mileage to wear them out...........................you must have been trying very hard;)

I thought 20k out of my bridgestones (on another car, B390 or something they were, I forget) was good going. Good Year Eagle NCT5s don't seem bad either, but they're something like ... actually I don't know. 175/65/R14 maybe.

Not really. It was the middle section of tread, completely gone...Is yours the 170 or 140, dont know if that makes a difference. (Oh and the tyres pressures were correct)

Mine's the 1.9TDi (105 as standard). Mine was remapped up to ~140 at around the time the first set of tyres was replaced, and there running at roughly the same wear rate.

But again with this set I've been rotating the tyres every 10000 or so. I'm on just over 50000 miles now, and they will need replacing certainly before 60000.

Ive got 18" with Dunlop SPs they have done 18000, was serviced last week and the fronts are both are 5mm and the rears 6mm:D

Mainly Motorways and A roads though.

Some mixed results here then, I had bridgestone potenza on my astra and think its the better tyre than the pirelli i have on the FR the potenza also has a rim protector

In my experience Pirellis have always been a bit soft.

I will be rotating mine as want to replace all 4 at same time for something better with rim protection. The Dunlop SP9000s I fitted to my last FR were very good and have massive rim protectors.

What about some toyo,s

Went to my usual tyre specailist who I deal with, and I asked which tyre would he put on the car if he was driving it with specail thoughts of driving in the wet. He said Toyo extreme? about £115 a time. Life betwee 5K-9k. He also is putting them on his scooby.
Leaving for France tomorrow so havent had time to look them up.
Any thoughts?

Anyone have any recommendations on which tyres would reduce road noise? About to buy some new 18" ones but need some advice. Anyone have a winning combination of noise reduction, and extended road wear? I like the look of the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3, any good wear wise?

But for now I will be swapping the front with the back. I think a whole new full set is better then 2 at a time, besides the fact that I'm changing sizes.
Any recommendations on good online tyre retailers (price wise)?
