After seeing the offer Awesome Gti have on, I am debating getting one done.

My situation:

I do a lot of miles every week, 4-500. And get quite high MPG (which is why I bought the car), usually average 63 ish. The car has no engine modifications at all, and is currently on 70k.

I don't really ever rag the car, occasionally I will accelerate quickly if I get bored, or want to over take stuff etc. But generally I cruise along at the speed limit*. With the exception of when I am on AMAZING roads like I was this weekend in scotland. But thats rare :p

So my question is, will my MPG suffer, will it affect my reliability (that's the last thing I want to do really), and do you recommend it without any other mods (brakes? clutch? etc).

Thanks!

Nope and nope. I found I got better MPG (due to better low down torque, and thus less need to accelerate for longer periods to acheive the same desired speed)

Clutch should be fine if you keep torque below 300ftlb. Brakes should be fine for small blasts, but if you want to do track days and a lot of hard driving then I'd advise upgrading them.

Sounds good to me.

Have many people used Awesome for their maps? Just want to make sure its going to be a good one :)

Ahh touché!

Well I think I am going to ring up tomorrow and enquire....

Aaand the engine mods begin, ****!

gets expensive after a remap :(
tbh I'd go RWD before considering more power than map, don't think they can handle much more!
unless of course, it's the car of your dreams!

WHEN? you won't regret it!
just go easy on accelerating from low RPM and you'll be fine

Next thursday, at Awesome.

Aye I shall, will certainly be nice when I get back home and go for a drive around the dales!

yer lol, I thought people were over exaggerating about it on here but mine started after 7k

Asking if you should have a remap is like asking Rio Ferdinand if his arse is still from Balotelli on sunday lol.

I have one of Awesome's custom maps on my Leon and all i can say is 9months on, i'm still like a fat kid in a cake shop when i drive....Smiling all the time :D :D

You map your's and you'll gain about 5bhp. It's not really worth it.

You get better gains on a turbo'd car.

Harsh but true lol. My old 1.4 had really bad lag when pulling away from junction etc so i complained to the dealer and they updated the software on the ecu (which i think was effectively a remap) and it was much better to drive, more responsive and more power for overtaking from lower revs. So while a remap might not increase power by much, it might make it easier to live with.

Yeah lol. That's exactly what I'd do, speak to your dealer and make sure it's had the software revision done.

But as for a power map - I wouldn't bother.
