yesterday
Evening chaps,

I know a quick call to the MOT place tomorrow will give me my answer but thought i'd get some feedback off here to...

I want to have my side repeaters patched up but have been told if i do my car will not pass its MOT.

Ive seen a pic on ibizamk2.co.uk with it done and ive also seen a mk3 turbo in performace VW with it done ???

idea's ???

cheers
Dan

from what i read a while ago, if the front ones can be seen from the side then your fine, just leave the indicator wire in the arch lining and come MOT if the tester is a bit of a homo then just remove it from the liner and tape it to the wing,

job jobbed.

''Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986
These must be fitted with one side repeater indicator on each side. Instead of a separate lamp, the side repeater might be part of the front direction indicator if it includes a wraparound lens. Lamps incorporating a side repeater are marked either with an 'E' mark in a circle or an 'e' mark in a rectangle above which is the number 5. ''

so your headlamps shouldnt have either 'e' marking which means you need side repeaters.

if youve seen it done theyll either incorporate them into the wingmirrors, or add them crudely at MOT time as mentioned above.

I know from building kit cars, the side repeaters need to be visible from standing at the back corner of the vehicle and looking down the side.

i think it was hella or ring automotive that used to do a tacky stick on version to convert 'chav' door mirrors

would get ya through yearly on a temporary basis

Glad you asked this question as I lost one of my side repeaters when a tyre delaminated at Castle Combe and the flapping rubber took the repeater out (I've got no wheel arch liners). I'm on the lookout for a replacement lense if anyone has got one spare (e.g. original orange ones when upgrading to smoked or clear...)

I may have an orange one from when I upgraded to my smoked ones. I will have a look when I get home as Im currently 'busy' :)whistle:) at college.

if its Mk2 ibiza one's your after i have about 8 in my tool box. PM if you want one.

Flapper, i will investigate it further.

I am also thinking of doing this and having the holes blanked. Temporary ones would be a good call for MOT though. Only issue would be wiring for them for testing if there are no holes in the wings??

But it will have to be secure (not stuck on) and not pose a hazard for pedestrians you mow down

though technically your car should be capable of passing any MOT at any time, and i'll bet that if you 'fix' the lights they will put it as a comment, which will be viewable if you get stopped roadside

going to leave this i think, Sounds like i am getting myself into a world of pain with it.

I am now looking at the Merc Sprinter wing vent ? but i have just read (check out black cordy on ebay) that they are welded in ????? what ? i thought they would have just been cut in ? how would a place weld them in ?

The black cordy on ebay is an SCN member. How they did it was cut a hole in the wing, tack weld the vent in, grind down to smooth, layer of filler, sand, prime, paint.

Sounds like my idea of body work hell. They also do VW vents in transporters ;)
