yeah i know what you mean i used to be a techy for vw which obviously helped A LOT around the 1.8 t engine so i could have a heads up on common faults etc and also when i left obviously all my tools came with me so..... i had a lot of fun building my engine really rewarding at the end of the day also having friends in the know helps a lot too had a good friend helping me along my travel lol

I'd like to work for vw/Audi in the future, it is handy with people in the know iv got 2 guys helping me tomoz so hopfully shall go smoothly. To be honest I am really looking forward to stripping it down and building her back up like u say really rewarding iv done a engine change in the past on a corolla and loved every minuet of it so can't wait.. Aslong as it goes smoothly that is lol

Quick question as u obviously know your stuff in these engines do I need to get head skimmed or not bother? The car still runs sweet so I'm hopeing not :)

i would recommend having the head skimmed! as its off and its not that expensive! where have you mounted your forge unos?? i'll be fitting mine soon but cant decide where to mount it

Cable tied at the mo, need to drill holes on the Unos plate and then I'll bolt it to the firewall I think, suppose I should get it skimmed I'll phone about when heads off

if you can get hold of an engineers ruler i.e metal and pin straight lay it accross the head in every direction if there is no gap re skimming the head is an un-neccisary expenditure bud

Right all done at last! Big effort! Few little issues put it all together started her up and she ran like a bag of nails, missing and popping so thought we had done the timing wrong so stripped it all back out and nope all fine starte her up again exactly the same! Left her running and could hear some hissing from the inlet mani and found that a hose had managed to pop it's self off! Put it back on and Wow sooo smooth gonna be running it in for a few hundred miles.. It turns out timing was about half a tooth out all this time as on tick over it would hunt from time to time but not now :-D

I know lol do wish I could have done that sort of happend at the wrong time of the month need to buy a TIP and it would have been alot easier to install whit head off lol

i no what you mean mate my engine mount broke off which required engine to come out , and wanted to get relentless k04 mani and would of been easy to bolt on while the engine was out

no i have other problems with her :( turbo has gone again! that is were coolant is going coolant seals have gone just leaking the coolant straight out of the exhaust side! at least i have a warrenty :) slight problem on cold start rough idel for about 12 seconds then fine so bought a coolant temp sensor so hopefully will be all good

well I thought I would give this thread a good update as it has been an awful few months of ownership. after I fitted 3! head gaskets I found there was a cracked coolant jacket that was causing the coolant issue so I have now bought another AUQ engine off eBay and should expect it some time this week.

However I cant fit it until august as that's when I have time off from my new job.

unfortunately since its been sitting on my drive a stone had flicked up and cracked one of my rear lights!? how I don't know!

Oh and I also just before I took her off the road i had a huge crack in the windscreen!

and she is now FILTHY!

I cant wait to get the engine here as I'm planning on cleaning the block up and painting it all, im thinking white block (yea white!) black sump and try and clean the head up so its nice and silver.

This will also give me a good opportunity to give the engine bay a really good clean and am going to try and tidy up a few of the hoses and wires.

as you can see she is now in need of allot of TLC and am really looking forward to do it all and have my Leona back on the road and back to her former glory!
