Karoq gets the optional electronic tiff like dash panel screen like VW and Audi. That's available on the SSD headend models. First time that's been allowed to be used outside the top range brands. Gets an option on moving / removalable rear seats, neither on the Ateca.

On the three bugbears of the Ateca:

  • rear door water ingress
  • front space
  • rear catch cover

Inspection of the photos shows the rear door sharing the wheel arch so if worried about slurry, muck and corrosion this design might not be for you. Being the sister car it's highly likely to bring you quite upfront to the dash and doesn't have the passenger front legroom of the old Altea and other larger SUVs. Kodiak which will have a Seat sister fixes both issues.

Rear catch. Ateca exhibits a lot of naked polythene and your attention starts from seeing the thin edge of plastic in the tailgate by the lock latch. Kodiaq has a nifty flick cover. I though the Skoda factory had done the dirty on Seat and left this off, but the Karoq doesn't have this cover either.

Crystal ball gazing reckon the big tiff type of dash screen will appear on the Ateca's big sister when that's launched. In the meantime for Ateca / Karoq buyers you got looks and suspension and the electronic dash to consider in the choice. DCC will be on both as an option. Obviously price as well.
