Hi all , my cars had a jabbasport custom remap , currently runs 175bhp and 306lbs/ft on a standard clutch had this remap done around 5k miles ago. Recently it seems the car is a little less powerful than when it was first done , would this be the clutch starting to slip or just me being used to the power now?

Im lead to believe the standard clutch is rated to 310lbs but my car has done 57kish so what symptoms are there to indcate clutch slippage and is there any test you can do to check for it ? ie trying to move off in 4th gear and a stall indicting an ok clutch.

Many thanks.

if your clutch was slipping, your revs would rise but speed will not.

stick it in 3rd near & just above 2k revs, then gradually boot it. your rev & speed needle should move together at the same pace.
(obvisouly dont do this at 0mph, find a nice big empty road with a high limit)

mines running a jabba map and i never boot it below 1.5k. been fine for 1000miles so far

I dont think he's suggesting doing this permanently!

It is a common test, stick it in 5th and try and pull away. If you manage it then you need to change your clutch I think. If you stall then you should be alrite. If its not happening either way then dont keep trying!!

Moving from standstill sounds like a bizarre way to test for clutch slip !

You need to check for slip when your engine is developing peak torque. Try accelerating hard in 4th/5th/6th from around 1800rpm upwards (as the engine goes through it's maximum torque rev range).
Check the rev counter & speedo rise proportinally, IE rev counter doesn't jump up without a corresponding speed increase.

Yeh muddyboots is right with what he says.
My FR TDI is running around 185 BHP and the clutch can slip now and again, but I find this to be worse in the cold (as you get slightly more power from the car when the weather is cold) once the weather heats up it's fine unless I drive it really hard!

I have got an uprated one for it but just not got round to doing as yet.
