Hi
My Leon SE SC 1.4 6000 mile 13 month old as suddenly developed a fishy or bad egg smell not all the time but just about once a week it comes and goes and is not constant and seem to be when car is moving its not in the car constant ?

The only time I had a smell like this was on a Ford Escort when the clutch burnt out ?

Has anybody had something similar

A burning clutch smell reminds me of burning rubber normally, not sure about the eggs. This could be battery or combustion related.

An eggy smell could be a knackered cat. I can remember when they first became mainstream, you could always tell when you were following a car with one fitted because of the awful rotten egg smell.

Sent from my piece of shite iPhone - according to Muz.

^^^^ Something's not right though if exhaust gases/smells are getting into the cabin.

Ive heard of a few causes for this....
1. Plastic bag stuck and melted onto exhaust (Really!)
2. Catalytic Convertor is knackered
3. Mixture of fuel and air is incorrect. This can be caused with something as simple as a dirty throttle body restricting maximum air flow.

Experienced number 3. On my 2008 Mazda 3

Thanks all will get under tomorrow and check exhaust and if persist get dealer to check it as its only a mile away

Don't sweat it, either it's where the air con has been used last or hasn't been used for a whil, plus things like fox pee go straight through...

Screen wash gone stale ? Air con bacteria ? Had these recently myself. Not enough screen wash to water and with the car not being used it was pretty bad.

My guess would be the air con. Give it a right good blast for a while on low temperature with the air con on, see if its any better after that. Obviously it will smell awful while you're doing it though :) lol
