So...Clutch Slip

Was just driving around yesterday, and went to overtake a car. Doing about 60 in 4th, and put foot down. Now the revs built up to around 3000rpm, then i started to speed up...

So looks liek between 2000 and 3000rpm i'm gettingclutch slip. It is worse in high gears. Like 6th on teh motorway...

I'm guessing I may need a new clutch :( Had a quick look, and looks like a standard one is £250ish.. Which is ok (i guess) however having it mapped to 298lbs/ft (with no future mods planned) should I get an uprated one? However the cost of that!

Anyway. Ideas apreciated, and people experience. Also i guess if i drive normal it is ok. As in i wont get stranded with no clutch?

My personal opinion, if your car is mapped, you'll be wasting money if you don't uprate the clutch. TDI engines are very torquey as standard, map them and be prepared for the clutch to take the brunt. I'm on my 4th Seat TDI, ALL have had clutch issues to a point, 3 of them have been remapped.

I suggest you do a search, this comes up at least once a week and has started to get boring.
Search and you'll find that with a remap, unless you have it restricted to around 280lb^ft then your gonna require an uprated one.

Send the sponcers on here a message, they'll price you one up with fitting costs.

Cheers guys! Had a good old search around, look like the Sachs one is the one to go for... But bloody hell it's expensive!

Would there be anything else i need to get? Or can I just get the clutch?

Morph - I have just sent Will an email cheers!

I believe it's standard practice to change the flywheel once the box is off and there's 2 options; single mass or dual mass. Dual mass is standard, but is less reliable. The single mass is lighter, more reliable but is noisey and puts more strain on the box IIRC.

I've been looking at this myself, and the above is what I've picked up from it all. Very expensive, but I'm nearly there!

Hmmm Interesting stuff there Scape. Tbh i think a Dual mass would be ok for me, as i have no further mods planned. Don't need any more power!

£700 (roughly) for a Sachs clutch fitted is what i'm finding now...

Aii, I'm going for DMF I think. Seen a couple of videos of dervs with SMF and really not liking the extra noise :( bad enough with it being a derv in the first place, don't want to make it any worse!

£700 is a very good price, can only find the parts myself for £600 (kit and release bearing).

Found that price on a SKoda Forum, From Awsome Gti. So sent them a message to get an updated price. Will report back with info!

Also just had a chat with my mate, who is having a word with some people tomorrow for me.

Right. Done some ringing around, best price i have got is £750 fitted, this however is with Performance Torque in Birmingham, and i'm in Nottingham.

Or £800 fitted by my local garage.

Would people advise still driving the car? I need to get to work tomorrow

I've driven mine for about a month now and it's been sound. Occasionally I'll check to see if it's still slipping mind...

Could give JBS a try in Chesterfield, slightly closer but not sure if they'll match the price given by P-Torque.

JBS won't match those prices on an uprated clutch and fitting (if they do, I need to start asking questions) as I paid roughly those figures for a standard clutch (included DMF though).

I think you better off with the local crowd (if you trust their work) because if something were to go wrong for what ever reason, getting it back for a warranty/repair will be a whole lot easier (talking from experience now!!).

Probably better off going local if you know them, saves a lot of ball ache mate.

Reading that, presumably you asked them?

JBS did my DMF and std clutch replacement on my TDI 130 Sport, I enquired about an uprated one at the time. I think it was +/- £1100 (if my memory serves me correctly) for an uprated kit with a flywheel and fitting, but my car wasn't mapped, nor was I planning to map it so didn't bother.

I see, then I'm not sure what questions you'd be asking if they were to match the prices given above?

DervPower - I presumed the £750/800 quotes was just for the uprated clutch fitted and no flywheel?

Correct. No Flywheel in that price. I'd say that bond's price is about right if he gets a flywheel as well, as from research that looked to be around £200 extra... Which hopefully I don't need at the moment, if so i might just have to turn the bloody map off
