The front of my car is starting to look a little stone chipped.

My car is 05 registered and I have had it since new.

I have only done 36K most of which is motorway miles leaving large gaps between me and other vehicles, however the front of my car looks like I follow a gritter down the road everyday

I was thinking that the paint must be a bit soft

Anyone else found this?

Thats a Porsche alloy Rash

Did you wear it round your neck witch a large gold chain and use it to deflect the stones by sitting on the bonnet

not sure I want rubber on the front of the car, bit like wrapping it in cling film.

yer soz about the porsche alloy  my mistake  pics dont do the bonnet bra any favours i think it looks amazing and also stops stone chips! if this isnt your taste get the clear film protection done on the front end costs a bit but at the end of the day it saves your paint!

You should have seen the state of my Ibiza (Eclipse Blue) when I sold it on 80,000 miles.
The whole bonnet was peppered with chips - and the bumper, wing fronts and even the leading edge of the roof were really bad.

My Passat on the other hand, has hardly got any - it's on 130k miles, 38k of which were covered by me.
If I get another Seat, I'll seriously consider getting the clear film protection - it might cost 2 or 3 hundred quid, but probably less than the value you'd lose from a covering of stonechips.
Sorry Rash, think car bras look **** :)

do you think bonnet stone chips devalue the car, I wouldn't of thought it did as its the norm for most used cars

I'm talking a SERIOUS amount of stonechips - to the degree that my once dark-blue bonnet looked like it had been oversprayed with white paint - and that is no exaggeration.
There were several white scratches 2-3 inches long trailing along the bonnet, along the wings and on the leading edge of the roof.

Nothing to do with that, I always drive a safe distance behind (wouldn't have passed my advanced test otherwise ;) ).

More to do with the fact that most of my driving is fast blasts up more rural roads and the dust & stones that get thrown up by other cars.

But the Ibiza obviously had paint that was susceptible, as I've been driving the Passat on the same route for 38k miles without any damage.
Maybe the blue colours were worse - I've heard others say Extreme Blue was pretty bad for it too.

mine's chipped to buggery, the previous owner has obviously tried to touch it up but it looks shocking!

Might have to invest in a bra ......... ;)

same here! [:@]

wish they'd of invested in a professional to sort the chip / dent / gouge! [:@]

reckon the bra thing looks ace on rash's black ibiza, not sure whether it would look good on my red oneb:confused:

I think it's shoddy paint

I haven't changed my driving style and yet I have never had a car gather so many stone chips.

SEAT paintwork :ban:

I think it's more to do with the paint used by some manufacturers nowadays. Great for the environment, not so good as a means of protecting the metal underneath.

And you always seem to get that orange-peel effect on all but the more expensive cars.

seat paint is atually really hard as is all vag paint might be so hard it makes chips worse ie hits and chipes bits off easier thsn it if dinted paint work if it was soft

Gritters and newly laid stone chippings cause the most damage, to the windscreen as well.

Not a lot you can do about stones getting flicked up by traffic coming in the other direction - except pray:headhurt:
