Spacers

Been reading a few old threads and came across one on wheel spacing on the LCR where people have put 10mm on the front and 15mm on the rear does this actually make any difference to the handling i know it will widen the track but is the difference noticable ie the car handles and grips better. Also i have found you can purchase these spacers from Forge and Badger do they also supply the long bolts for fitment.

remember to go for hubcentic spacers, to help reduce wheel wobble

Also I have found out as from my wheels thread you can get spacers that bolt onto your hub (supplied) and then you can simply use your own existing nuts and locknuts to secure the wheel to the spacer.

That sounds like the better option to me, whats bothered me about getting (i wanted 10mm on the rear) spacers is getting some replacement locking wheel nuts to fit with the spacers and this way you'd not have too.... excellent

other reasons for spacers are due to alloys not clearing the brakes.

Yes, they seem to be pricey though for the good ones, eibach, FK and H+R seems to be the top choices.

Pricey, tell me about it, £300 for H+R, 4 with bolts/locking nuts etc... thats crazy...

ebay's the place to get some cheaper, me thinks..

i had some on my gt-four which was 5x100

exactly as described, they had 10 holes basically, 5 to screw into the hub, then 5 for your original wheel nuts to screw into

no need for longer nuts

got them 2nd hand from ebay and refurbed them

Is it only me who has problem with balancing when using spacers? its doing my head in, balanced twice now, still wobbles at speeds ?????

You using hubcentric ones or just the ones that sandwich between?.

yeah hubcentric mate , only got 5mm all round now, vibrates on 60mph to 80 then stops at 90mph ish? wierd

I've just today ordered a pair of H&R 10mm spacers for the rear (20mm total track widening) with longer bolts (genuine H&R bolts) from the TT shop. They came to £91 including postage.

Didn't bother with locking nuts as I reckon they're more likely to throw the wheels off balance and its a b*gger to remove the plastic caps off the bolts anyway if you dont have the right tool.

I've recently done a full suspension upgrade (KW V2's, Powerflex bushes , Eibach ARB's and strut braces) and am hoping they do further improve stability and don't vibrate, though stability already seems much improved from the other mods.

Let you know when they're on!

BTW I thought the spacers that bolt to your hub and allow you to use your own bolts only apply to thicker spacers (20mm per side plus?) as slimmer spacers won't have enough meat to screw into ?

i just put some 15mm's on the rear ...
hubcentric ones too and only cost me 33 quid delivered
came with 2 x 15mm spacers and 10 longer radius and 10 other bolts ...

probably not the same quailty as the other brands but am happy

yeap ....
probably not to the same standard as the branded ones but you get what you pay for

been fitted a week now and doesnt seem to be any problems
