hi all, i just bought a spare key and remote for the central locking, does anyone know if there is a sequence you can perform to put the car into an activation mode to sync the new key so that the doors will open , the guy sent me a sequence with the new remote but it doesn't put the car into any reset mode.My car is a 59plate diesel altea. hope someone can help;)

There are two parts to the key - one is the remote chip which will let you operate central locking from a distance. This is what you are trying to sync?
If the procedure given doesn't work, you can have some with VCDS quickly adapt your CCM for all remote fobs.

The other part being the immobiliser chip - for this you'll need it programmed by a specialist, or again with VCDS assuming you have the SKC.

Where are you based?

hi , what do you mean by vcds, i will get the key bit done in a shop just wanted to sort out the fob, im in newport mate in wales

VCDS is a diagnostic cable & software that lets you fault scan and adapt coding - you can do things such as pair up used remotes etc.

Is this the procedure you were given?

Using a spare key switch the ignition on.
Insert the key to be programmed into the driver's door lock.
Manually lock the driver's door using the key.
Press the Lock or Unlock button on the fob once.
Wait for a least one second.
Press the Lock or Unlock button on the fob twice.
The vehicle horn will sound to indicate correct programming.

key programming

yes mate found 4 different versions on here none of them make the horn sound or 1 said the indicators would flash, all were by using 2 keys but no luck. Looks like will have to use someone who has the software:(

When you split the key, does it have the same part number as your original? There are different types that look similar.

I have also had a fob die on me before, even though the little red LED on it flashes when a button is pressed, don't rule out the possibility of a dodgy fob.

sparekey

yes split mykey to get the number , had to do that cause the guy on ebay said there was 2 types. do you think its because its a 59 plate. the other programme modes were off 06/07 cars

ok skard you were spot on, i took the car to a good locksmith today which programmes car keys etc, well he could'nt do it. He got various bits of info from the ecu then the car blocked his gear,it would'nt even recognise his plug in in th end. I then took it to a specialist vag man, it was done in about 2mins on his laptop using vcds. So now you all know cars with the new can bus system have to be programmed using vcds. Total cost for the key to be cut and remote programmed 77 quid, dealer prob 200 plus.RESULT
