I've seen various ideas on this, but thought I'd better ask about my car. 2025 model Arona, recently bought it, it came with aerosol and pump puncture repair kit, no jack. As it has a spare wheel well getting an actual spare seems a good idea. The wheels are 17" (I was expecting 16" ) with 205/55 R17 tyres. Now the well is about 26" across and the diameter of the wheels across the tyres also seems roughly 26" so I doubt one would actually fit in. (I can't try this because I haven't got a spare or jack at the moment...)
I've read that some people use a wheel smaller than the road wheels as a spare. Last car had this, it was 1" dia less. (Or the skinny temp spare wheel which is available for these cars but it seems to me that an actual road wheel that would allow longer distance if used would be best).

This is the first vehicle I've had that doesn't have a spare so advice would be gratefully received!

For what its worth the partner bought a 2019 Arona which wasn't going to have a spare. By that time Seat had sorted itself out so they supplied as per the order form:

Factory Fitted Options FULL SIZE SPACE SAVER WHEEL WITH ALL TOOLS £165.83

(2019 prices)

Factory fitted tyres:

173 PZE VWGROUP Street package Xcellence: 18-inch alloy wheels + SEAT Drive Profile

Space savers were the order of the day. So that well I suspect isn't deep enough for a full size. The Ateca had the same issue, if you didnt buy it with a spare then you had to grub around for a space saver. They used the same Leon mk3 on that for the Ateca. Seat got its act together and dealers then sold them as an optional extra if not built with the spare. There were a lot of people looking to buy spare space savers.

Pass on what the wheel is on the spare of the Arona on the partners car. Buried in the boot floor. They will be listed as spare space saver for Arona and tool kit. Yes they can be an inch or so smaller.

Ofcourse now spares are a thing of the past with EVs. I did drive on a space saver from Luxembourg to London once when the tyre developed a bulge in the wall. Discovered it Saturday night. Everything closes down on a Sunday in Luxembourg so no chance of getting a new tyre and left for the ferry. Steady 50 mph or something on the space saver. Curse of the pot holes in the UK which I think had damaged the wall. 20+ years ago.

You can also look at the sponsor area for discounts on spare wheels.

I recall when one was looking before a number of sites were offering spare wheel kits. Then there is always the parts department. Quite a common need.

Thanks for that, Tell, very useful info. I did wonder as the car has an actual wheel well, if a full size spare wheel would fit but obviously not (also since wheel sizes have got bigger). Searching for a spare space saver (plus tools) sounds a good move, got a reasonable chance of finishing the journey after a puncture (as with your Luxembourg to ferry trip). Only had one puncture with old car but being able to put spare on and quickly continue journey was helpful.

As you say, EVs and other current cars don't have room for spares, so the aerosol repair kit is the new order. However space saver spare is an extra layer of security.
