Sportrider 08 plate

Hey, I've had my 08 plate Sportrider for about a week now... its a 1.4 and previously I drove a Toyota Yaris T Sport 1.5. I didnt think there would be much of a difference in speed but I find the Ibiza really slow compared to the Yaris. The Ibiza only has 3k miles on it... could this have somehing to do with it? Maybe needs "broken in" a bit more? :confused: xx
 
The Yaris is a much lighter car, and also has a much better engine. Which 1.4 is it? the 100bhp model?

What made you decide to get rid of the T Sport? They are great little cars.
 
I still have the Yaris at the moment... no one has bought it yet which I'm kinda glad of... I'm finding the Ibiza a bit of a crap drive compared to it to be honest. Yeh its supposed to be the 100bhp model... doesn't feel like it! The Yaris has a body kit on it which needed work to it from hitting speed bumps so I thought I'd just buy a new car instead! lol.

Ah fair enough. There are a few reasons the yaris will feel a fair bit quicker.

The yaris weighs 950kg, and has a flywheel figure of 103bhp, where as the Ibiza weighs 1087+kg with a flywheel figure of 98bhp.
Seeing as the yaris is lighter with more power, and also run in, that may explain the difference in speed.
Another factor could be the fact that the Yaris engine uses VVTI. This may create an illusion of speed by pulling much harder at the higher end of the rev range, where as the Ibiza's power delivery will be smoother.
 
The Ibiza might need to be revved more. I don't know.....did you not test drive it first? :lol: :bleh:

Should've bought the diesel version. ;) I've heard that the Yaris 1.5's are bloomin quick for what they are! Plus it's Japanese which says it all......

Hope the Ibiza wears in a bit more.....the engine will still be tight at 3000. They used to reckon that it takes 30,000 miles for an engine to wear in fully. But it'll get better the more you use it.

there's also the matter of the VAG's electronic pedal where i think it doesnt give you what you ask of it and has millisecond delay in responce. Where's all the jap cars i've seen have the traditional cable to the throttle body, as in, there's something physical connecting between your right foot and the thottle. And not a computer trying to work out it thinks you want. (end rant)

I found on my car you need have it on higher revs, ~3k is where the engine seem to come alive
 
My sister has the yaris sport 1.5 and due to the weight of the car it will feel much quicker...however you will find that the seat handles better...or maybe that’s just me??
 
japanese 1.5s' are usually tuned to the equivalent 1.6 european engine...and their 1.3's to the equivalent 1.4 european engine

but to be sincere once 100hp is reached all engines feel relatively quicker for some reason, and the driving position also helps the feel
 
Hmm, not sure if there's much point spending 300 quid or so for about a 10bhp gain...
 
it's not just the 10-20hp gain though, its's the drivability of the car, rashcupra remapped his MK5 R32 got about 5HP gain stage 1, but said is completely differant to drive. Personall preferance i suppose.
