My drivers side front door is starting to annoy me, as it squeaks and creaks when it's opened or closed. It obviously needs a good greasing, but can anybody tell me what type of grease I should be looking for or, more importantly, avoiding?

Ta :)

I'd try a can of spray grease Rob, since you are trying to lube it with all the parts in place.

Will go on pretty liquidy, then goes gooey as it dries. Might be the best bet.

Will give that a go, cheers. Halfords should stock that shouldn't they? Never needed to buy any grease other than copper grease before

The stuff I have is Halfords own - in a green and yellow can. Decent stuff and doesn't cover half the car, unlike whatever it was the guy used on my Beemer's hinges.

Thats the stuff Jonny, white grease. Looks like someone packed their nose full then sneezed! Its bloody everywhere!

Nathanio, trouble with WD40 is that is dries out and doesn't last long in a place like a door hinge.

Everyone should have a can of WD40 stashed around somewhere! Most useful stuff known to man!

WD40 isn't a proper lubricant though, it's a water repellent with mild lubrication but as Reg says it doesn't last long. Not only that, it has a habit of attracting crap and dirt which could make things worse.
