do brakes squeal when the pads are too low? (when your not using them)

last couple weeks I've had an annoying squealing sound from the rear wheels, usually when im going in a straight line but tbh it only makes noises when the steering wheel is in a certain position.

i know for a fact that my rear pads are low and need replacing.

it doesn't sound dreadful, like when my wheel bearing was dodgy or like wheel bolts not done up tight enough, just annoying squealing sound, like the brakes only its when im driving normally

any help appreciated cheers

i had this before i changed the rears.....turned out they were binding quite bad. got squeeling at the front now. i can see the wallet coming out to play again.

mine are squeeling like a pig on speed this morning........really embarrassing en it when you slow down and everyone and their dog walking down the street turns around!!

sometimes it sort of happens all the time really, its just iv noticed it alot more recently when just driving straight. also iv noticed it happens at all speeds rather than say just 30 or less. was on the motorway yesterday and cruising along at 70 i could here it. annoying as ****

mine are squeeling rather embrassingly aswell - but checked them and only half way so doing to give them a quick clean -

Replacing wheels with spacers = pain in the arse!

Had the same thing on mine, also partially dependent on steering wheel angle, tilt on car etc etc.

Basically, in my case, I had worn a slight lip into the rear discs, as the pad friction area was very slightly smaller than the disc. Removing this lip (Seat Garage filed it off for me) has stopped it completely. Symptoms sound exactly the same as described above.

i rarely drive with the windows down in this weather....but....as it brightened up today a dropped the drivers window down an OH MY GOD!!!! its just a constant squeel, the sounds like ive smacked it up a kerb and damaged something? lol.

well done some testing on the way home from work and the noise does disappear when i brake

getting new tyres fitted on tuesday will have the fellas look at em

i got 4x Toyo T1S for my standard wheels from http://blackcircles.co.uk
fully fitted locally (by there approved fitters) for 240quid.

they were 46quid each if you were just buying the tyres, then most places charge a tenner per tyre to fit

you got 17s aint u? be quite abit more for you, double probably!! try mytyres.co.uk as well
