There seems to be a lot of talk of hybrid turbos being capable of doing x,y and z, but with the nature of them being a hybrid, surely their capabilities are only as good as who built/desigend them?

i got a stage 2 on my 1.8 20vT on monday and mine is soooo much quicker than before, i even beat a scooby wrx. mines gone from BHP 194-237 Torque 179-285!!!

AMD did it, yeah got FMIC

This is the only thing left for me to purchase before stage 2 but i have been reading that it is not essential to have a FMIC if its not driven hard all day long? Not sure whether to map it to stage 2 unless it makes a difference without the FMIC??

not much difference, ths SMICs work well enough as they are. the only difference you will see is after a long time of ragging the car at high revs. im also told it holds an extra psi or 2 in 4th gear, and generally holding boost better at higher revs.i think anything over 300bhp would require a FMIC.

thats next on my list before a hybrid turbo

with regards to an FMIC, i have just an induction kit, and a generic stage 1 remap, and replacing the 2 smic's with a forge big race fmic has made a noticable difference. it definatly pulls harder at higher revs. not had it RR'ed since, but before, was only getting 238bhp as the smic's were heat soaking

Peope talking about huge differences between stage 1 and stage 2 are mistaken IMO.

The stage 1 can't have been running right or it's simply the placebo effect

Stage 2 maybe slightly more responsive, keep the power slightly longer in the rev range etc but 10 to 15bhp on the road makes very little actual difference.

I have compared side by side with standard / remapped stage 1 which is a big power advantage and you only pull away slowly

For stage 2 the real cost is circa £2k as I pointed out on the previous page that money is better spent elsewhere for an investment of that level IMO

One option I didn't put down (if you want serious power) was NOS, with a progressive programmer putting the NOS in it's a driveable alternative and 350lbs/ft+ of torque makes a big difference to performance, coupled with a stage 1 remap you'll certainly have more than enough power to keep you amused....
