Right, i dont know if its just me, coming from a petrol, but anyways here's the problem, Went on the motorway before to have a quick blast, and it didnt seem to want to go at all! Got to speed pretty well, but i was in 5th, revs crept up to 3200 and it just sat at 80. I could put the throttle anywhere from halfway, all the way to the carpet, nothing. I just put it down to having a car full of people, but still i would of expected it to pull harder?

Then i was on a stretch of dual carriageway again, in fifth, floored the throttle and nothing happened... just slowly increased speed.

Is it normal for a diesel to do that? It is due a service, could that be the problem? dirty fuel filter or something? Other than top end pull, its fine down low, pulls really strong.

Car is a Leon TDI 110.

Thanks alot. Rob :)

it could be that it went into limp mode..maybe find ome one with vag com to check the fault codes ofro you

I wouldnt expect it to do that to be honest. I know mines the pd130 but 70 in 6th at 1800 rpm. Fully loaded, 5 adults and luggage in boot and anywere else i could squeeze it.lol. If i put my foot down and it will pull like its empty. Likewise, when i went to an airfield, had it in 5th at 80 put foot down and pulled strong to 130mph. Bloody scary though!

could also be the maf??i mean on my golf tdi 110 i had that always went into limp mode and did exattly what he was describing but thing is it could be anything might be worth it to change the maf sensor??

Cheers guys, knew it should be pulling more than it is. Ill be booking it in for a service probably tomorrow. If it goes into safe will any lights come up on the dash? I was trying it again today first few times, it pulled like a train from 3rd through 4th and fifth. Then after a while it just seemed like the torque went walkies, nothing at all. Was goin to overtake a car before as well, floored it, and the revs just slowly crept up. no power at all.

Would it be worth taking the MAF off to clean it? Should i do the contacts with the dielectric stuff?

Would i be able to get any faults up in the climate control screen? Saw a guide to getting fault code type things on it.

Thanks alot guys!! Rob :)

always worth cleaning the maf my golf used to do tat power then no power at all almost as if the turbo fell off and that was because it was going into limp mode

Right, nice one. Ill get some grease tomorrow and try it. Also where should the revs sit at idle on the clocks? Seems a bit high to me, sits on the notch under 1K so 900RPM.

defintaley your maf sensor, around £50 for one from your local tps or try your delears

Cheers mate, still gonna check it over like as £50 isnt a small amount lol Would cleaning it give a temporary fix, just to make sure?

you can try cleaning it, but as seeing what you are saying, its your maf sensor, trust me mate, my grandads pd130 vw bora was like that, does it feel when rolling in second for example at 1500rpm and put your foot to the floor there is no boost, just smooth if you get me, strugers1 can tell you this, my grandads bora was like this, i took him to get a new maf, i even bought it for him, how generous lol put it on and the car was a totally new car ;)

Yeah pretty much like that. Sometimes but not all the time. Sometimes i can be doing that and it'll pick up quicker than others. But it is most of the time, slow to pick up. Thanks bud. I was planning on going to the stealers anyway to get some mats, so ill ask for a price.

could be maf or going into limp mode because normally maf there will no power at all across all revs sounds like my golf just pops into limp mode!!when you turn it off and back on does it pll again??if so its going into limp mode

i have this exact same problem, except its intermittent, like sometimes it works perfectly and the car shoots off =) then others its like the turbo just cuts out.. solved by turning the car off and on again, but its a bit dodgy doing that whilst moving.. If it is defintaly the MAF sensor, im going to buy one today, was kinda concerned it was the ECU =(

Thanks for clearing up the idle RPM :) Yeah if i swith off and back on, the power is back.

I have only ever put my TDI into limp mode once, and that was quick acceleration in winter from a cold start - doh! (restarted and everything back to normal) Anyways - I started driving on Monday evening and the car was driving ok in urban streets, but tried to accelerate on a warm engine onto dual and no power? foot to the floor, and really sluggish acceleration (1mph for 1second) I decided to stop and turn the engine on and off and it appeared to reset itself. (i also think my turbo is not as noisey as it once was)

Im thinking I have a dirty fuel filter, as I have been using millers sport additive, and reckon i have cleaned my engine so much the fuel filter is choked. How often should the filter be changed? (my only service that details a new fuel filter was 25K ago) I think to change this first before moving my attention to the MAF.
