When I turn my car off I get a message bing saying starter system faulty workshop.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
It has drained my battery and my alarm has gone off for no reason.

Hi is your car stop start? When battery voltage is low usually you’ll get a stop/start error msg on the dash. Also when you’re battery is below a voltage your car alarm will go off too.

Yes it is start/stop and yes I do have error in start/stop message and the ACC and front assist error message also.

It’ll be related to the battery being flat mate those are the first systems to shut down when battery voltage is low. You need a new battery and then to test for a drain to see why the battery went flat. It could just be that you don’t do any miles and over the years the amps have dropped or could be something else. Hope this helps.

I think the battery drained because I put a fuse in wrong so there wasn't a proper circuit, it was inside on the 12v socket fuse, but im not 100%
Do you know why the message about the starter system is there?

Hi yes it is because your battery is no longer 12v and it has disabled all the systems that it tells you via the warnings. I don’t think you can put a fuse in wrong if it wasn’t fitted properly the circuit wouldn’t be complete and then drain your battery flat. Also what was the fuse for? What was the car failing to do for you to replace the fuse?

Nothing wrong I am putting in a boost gauge and a air/fuel ratio gauge, i done all the wiring to check it was all correct and when I finished I unplugged my new wiring to put it all back to normal as I need a o2 sensor fitted for the air/fuel gauge, and I put the fuse in incorrect hard to explain lol, I put the fuse in one right slot and one wrong slot basically.
And I think that is what drained the battery.
I'm not sure why the starter system faulty message is appearing though.

It’s because your battery is flat... You need to replace the battery and then reset the errors and then retest for a battery drain.

Why do I need to replace the battery? Did it not drain because of me putting the fuse in wrong?

That’s the reason you need to check for a drain with the battery voltage at what it should be. You can try to recharge the battery if you have a charger. But you need to test the battery and see what condition it is as if it’s only at 50amps and should be 700amps it’s no good. You can have them tested at any battery fitting place for free.

I will get it checked, its going in the garage Monday to have some parts fitted so I will get them to test it.

How old is your battery? Just had to replace one in my Golf R after just over four years which is good going. Mine did similar errors to yours. Batteries don’t last forever unfortunately!

Hey,

Did you get this sorted? I've got the exact same issue. Sometimes I have to press the start button a few times to start or even stop the engine, then it says starter system faulty.

It also has drained the battery and caused the car alarm to go off.

I must admit that I do find it annoying when someone posts about a problem they have and then don't follow up on whether they solved it!
