Just for anyone having problems with their Seat Ibiza Cupra TDi PD 160bhp; I had a glitch on my car the other week. I drove the car a few yards across the car-park and turned it off. When I came to start the car again 1 hr later, the engine turned but nothing fired.
The garage found low compression on all cylinders and thought that it might be a problem with (so begins a list):
- the fuel injectors, but this would be weird that all injectors went at once
- cam belt slipped a tooth or two, causing lack of compression at that point in the cycle or complete engine failure and mashed head/valves
- fuel pump failure
- ingress of water, causing issues (possibly a cracked cylinder head)
- blown head gasket
After hours of searching, a random find was with the air/throttle flap stuck closed, preventing any air getting in. If you have a similar problem, it's worth checking this first! No parts needed other than a clean and lube of the unit. Luckily not a brand new cylinder head!
