I have a knock in my steering like there is some play in the steering wheel/column. When the car is stationary and you move the steering wheel from side to side (only a couple of cm's) there is a knocking feel/sound. You can also feel this play when going over bumps.

Seat St Albans have said its a characteristic of the car!! They have 2 other LCR's and they both do it. I'm not willing to accept this as it has only done this for the past week or so. But they say they can't find a fault so can't fix it.

Has anybody else seen this issue?

I done a search and the bearing at the top of the steering column came up, but my dealer says its not this.

Any ideas?

:(

Mate, I don't know what it can be but what kind of explanation is your dealer giving you! I HATE that line!

Think I would have to insist they investigate it further or give SEAT UK a buzz.

don't know what your problem is but this is what SEAT Watford did for me.

I called up and said I have a dodgey noise coming from the NSF suspension.

They said when can you pop in so our techy can have a listen?

In about 20mins I said

I turned up and took the guy for a spin round the block and over a speed hump!

Car made dodgey noise! thankfully.

They said they would need it for a couple of days!

booked in a week later with a courtesy car supplied.

got my car back dodgey noise free

Mine was lower arm and bushes I think. made clunking and creaking noises.

So my advise is to contact seat Watford! Stuarts your man there.

They said they will get onto Seat technical but if they don't come up with anything there isn't a problem as far as they are concerned as they believe they all do it.

They have this last chance but I can see a visit to Watford coming on.

I don't like their attitude at St Albans at all, they even had the cheek to say "If Seat UK haven't seen this before, we can't WASTE any more time looking at it"

WASTE any more time!!! FFS I'm a customer with warranty and this is their attitude!! Stinks.

Can't believe this!!

:censored:

My car went back to Seat St Albans to look at again.

They still said "as far as they are concerned, there is no problem"

They even said Seat technical had said the same thing. I spoke to Seat UK and they said they have spoken to St Albans and they had agrred that unless it gets any worse, there is nothing I can do!! (How much worse does it need to get, me having an accident?!!)

I couldn't be bothered to bang my head against a brick wall so I took it to Seat Watford for a second opinion.

They took it for a drive and looked it over and said it needs a new steering column and advised me that I shouldn't drive it until they done the work!!

I am sooo pi$$ed off with Seat and St Albans (but not Seat Watford).

I want to take this further as there is obviously a potetially dangerous problem that they refused to acknowledge even after several visits.

Anyone know what I can do or who I can speak to about this?

PS Full marks for Seat Watford.

Get the work done by SEAT Watford then write a letter of complaint to SEAT customer services about St Albans.

Don't rock the boat until you have your car all fixed and you are happy ;)

Seat Watford have done the work and it feels like a new car again. It feels tight and I am very happy!

They have also done the alignment and its straight as a die!

Well done Seat Watford, watch out Seat UK and Seat St.Albans, I'm gunning for you two!!

Does anyone have the name and address of the Head boy at Seat UK Customer Services? I have a nice letter for him and want to make sure it gets to the right place.

Well done mate :D top stuff SEAT Watford

Just ring customer services and ask for a name to write too.

They forgot to write back to me  but once on the case they do a good job!

.

A similar thing happened to mine, one of the two bolts that hold the top end of the steering column in place was loose and actually fell out, the other one was loose too, causing excessive up & down & side to side movement. Its easy to check, there visible once the cover around the ign lock is removed

Steering play / Knock

Hello fellow seat owners,

I just thought I'd post this both for the record and for other Seat Leon owners.

I have an 04 plate Leon Cupra PD150, 30,000 miles on pcp (personal lease plan). Since new I've had some major problems with the car.

Fault 1 Dealer taken to - White Dove Cardiff
Gear box fault (Major lift off wine) resulting in a completley new 6 speed box! which is now back as bad as ever! I give up on that point.

Fault 2 Dealer taken to - White Dove & FRF Swansea (eventually repaired by FRF)A broken engine mount which took three months of constant nagging to get sorted, in fact it was only sorted because the engine droped from the mount resulting in a hell of a noise! for three months I had taken the car back to the dealer complaining of a real bad metal to metal type buzz when pulling off.

Fault 3
dealer taken to White Dove & FRF Swansea (eventually fixed by FRF Swansea)I also spent a good month trying to get a bad rattle behind the dash clocks even acknowledged by the dealer White Dove Cardiff! let alone get it sorted!

Fault 4 & Current (About to call Seat UK for advise on where to take the car) I have the exact same fault as on the title of this original post and have done for some months - I have pointed out this fault to FRF Swansea at the last service a few months back, FRF told me that there is nothing to worry about, in fact that it was just the steering rack loosening up and that this is because the steering rack is designed to be this way! I didn't like their statment and I felt I knew better having spent the last 14 years working on my own cars etc.. I felt brushed aside and at my wits end. The car currently feels like a 15 year old shed and its a March 04 plate!!!

It crossed my mind on more than one occasion that the steering rack might be faulty and if it was worn/faulty what would happen if I was travelling on the motorway and it gave way? I could get seriously hurt. I note the comments from Seat Watford - that a car with this fault should not be driven in that condition! who would the buck stop with if the worst should happen whilst I continue to drive the car? its officially recorded that FRF know I reported the fault and that I'm currently unhappy that nothing was done about it.

Another point that I have been made aware of and feel is worth a mention - apparently if a Seat dealer makes a decision to replace a part because of fault should they make the wrong decision Seat Milton Keynes will bill them for the part! which proberbly explains why the dealers I have been in touch with previously have been so reluctant to make a decision about changing parts - which I feel really stinks! why get a new car with a warranty if you can't get things sorted easily or properly. Surley Seat dealers should have mechanics that are to the standard that they can properly diagnose faults.

I guess this all sounding familiar JTT

Anyway its been months as I say, and I finally remember about CUPRA NET so I decided to have a look through the forum's, within minutes I found the original post by JTT. I feel almost happy that this fault is known by other owners.

Sadly I now face the dealer and thier excusses again - only this time I'm armed with a print out of this entire thread and also an indipendant opinion form a mechanic that worked for Paramount Jaguar. I sincerely hope I get some joy.

Anyway thanks to JTT for posting your comments because seriously if I hadn't seen your post it I was about to give up fighting and just hand my car back and end the pcp early.

Surley thats not right SEAT?
