Hi all.

I pulled off my suspension the other day to lube it up hopeing to stop that god damn clunking noise i kept hearing.

Anyway, once i'd stripped it all down and put it all back together i noticed my steering wheel wasnt lining up.

now that i think about it, when i was taking the wheels off i moved the steering, though the key wasnt in the ignition.

The tracking seems fine, it levels itself to a straight line.

Anyone any idea why this would have happened and will it be safe to (possible to) just reallign the steering wheel?

I guess you have knocked the alignment out! Laser check place should sort it for £20
 
I was thinking more like i've jumped a notch or two on the steering rack, as I said it lines itself up and drives perfectly straight.

if you have had the fronts off then you will need the camber setting right.they can look straight, but tell tale signs on your tyres a few 000's miles down the road will show up.full geomtry setup is what you need,not just tracking that your local quick fit will do.

quick fit HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA thanks mate i needed a good laugh, i wouldnt let quick fit near anything i own, they are total monkeys
 
But what I dont get, is why its went out, all i did was take off, clean, lube and put back on. I didnt touch anything that would affect camber or toe angles.

I've got a small garage down the road that I got the tracking done by when i put the suspension on first and had it done because i was swapping from 1.4s to cupra stuff, but i cant see why it would be so massively out, and both wheels to boot.

Have you seen the amount of movement that can be made on the two bolts at the bottom? That will throw it out. Plus the strut top fixing. I done the same thing. Had the camber etc.. done then had to change the wheel bearing, now its all over the place.

I gotta take the fronts off again to stop the clunking then i'll be gettin it setup again.

Errrr no! I got mine done for £20 all in I think, it doesn't take them long to do all 4 wheels....maybe 15/20 mins!

Takes a lot longer to do camber...

Anything from £80-120 is feasible for a good job using good equipment.

Shouldnt really pay more than £50 for laser alignment. Mine took about 40 mins from start to finish. With 2 adjustments needed. (after i fitted H&R cup kit) But depends on different companies. Maybe up to £100 max?
 
MOT booked in next month, so just after that i'll be over tram road, having mine done to Phil. Cos its annoying me, being lazy and not fitting them!

Note to self, put legal plates on for MOT.
