Sorry to hear that. Seems to be on the increase. I hope everyone is ok (as much as can be expected). Do you have the reg no (assuming it hasn't got fake plates on now) just in case anyone spots it? Any distinguishing features?

Sorry about that mate. Hope they didn't do any damage to anyone or anything in the house.
I'm actually going up to Warrington tomorrow for the weekend.
It does seem to be quite common lately. I think I've decided on just not parking directly in front of my house.

cheers guys, no-one was hurt, police reckon they only wanted the Car, im just glad i left the keys downstairs as the police said they would have come looking for them, and then it might have been a 'different crime', there words !!!. The car was direct from main dealer, ex managers car who had uprated audio, black roof, badge, mirrors and larger wheels. I presume if it doesn’t get returned it will be a 'discussion' with the insurance about the payout, never had to claim before!!!.

Apparently I have to send the keys/log book/service history etc to the claims handlers before they pay out ???.

Anyone know where I could get a good idea of what the car was worth.

Cheers

That's something at least. You can create a free account on Autotrader and given the mileage / model of car it shows you a guide price private/dealer. This is pretty much the trade in price you'd get from a dealer. I'd look at the private price and work upwards from there. But any cars you can see for sale at dealerships that match the spec/mileage I'd make a note of to help build your case.

Really sorry to hear this - pi55es me off that you can’t have nice things you work hard for because some thieving scrote decides they’re just going to take it

I don’t know if you’ve already done it but a FB marketplace ad helped my friend recover his car when it got nicked as everyone shared it around. Might be worth a try?

Sorry to hear this. Mine 19 reg was stolen at the end of April. At least the family are ok and we were also told it was a good thing the keys were downstairs. Just going through insurance to sort it. Hope you get sorted ok

Sorry to hear this mate if you don't mind me asking what part of Warrington was this?

Sorry to hear about your car glad you and your family are all ok
The fb thing works well as it took less than 12 hours to find a stolen car from a friends work place to get the car back

I sometimes work in Warrington, I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled.
Happened to us back in 2006 when my Octavia vrs was a week old. I stupidly used to keep my car keys on the bedside table and they even came upstairs and rooted through drawers trying to find them.
My wife and myself both slept through the whole thing.
They didn’t get the keys and nothing else was taken but it didn’t half frighten the life out of us when we found drawers open upstairs. The police couldn’t believe we hadn’t heard them but also said it was probably a good thing.
Hope all gets sorted soon for you.

Hi All,

Many thanks for all the replies, just thought I would keep you up to date, so I still have not heard anything about my car. My insurance Company (AA) put my claim to their underwriter, and then to their loss adjusters. They contacted me for a phone interview, they also sent load of forms to complete. I had to send the completed forms with all my documentation, key, service book etc to them. They sent my details to their ‘engineers’ for a price. They contacted me and offered £15k, I have asked them to provide details of how they came to that price.

Cheers

When I had my car before last written off (not my fault), the first offer was stupidly low. My solicitor said they always try it on and to always reject the first offer. What ballpark were you hoping for?

Hi,
Don’t know what price im looking for, wasn’t thinking of selling it, however i don’t believe they would give me a 'fair' price to begin with considering the condition of the car etc.
cheers

You could look on Autotrader for comparators to quote to them, plus this will give you an idea of what you should be holding out for

@NICK911 - Yes, always do this. Also, check out used examples of the same model / similar spec, age and mileage to yours in the used car section on the Seat website, as used cars sold through the Seat dealer network will probably be priced a little higher than those sold through non-Seat dealers. Pick a range of examples so you can provide details to your insurer of cars like yours that are currently retailing for more than you’ve been offered.

It’s in the insurer’s best interest to settle the claim for as low a cost as possible so like @Legojon has said, their first offer is likely to be low - more likely to be nearer to the trade value, rather than the retail price you’d need to pay to buy a replacement car off a dealer’s forecourt. Never accept the insurer’s first offer, and by being ready to challenge their offer, they’ll realise you’ve done your homework and you have a good understanding of how much they should be settling your claim for.

Good luck. Hope you get a speedy settlement of a realistic settlement.

Yes.
Experience is they offer a low figure.

However when my wife's Corsa was written off they offered over £1 k above book for trade in.

I thought they may be trying it on so went for it.
The answer was it was ALREADY over £1k above book and there was no more. [TRUE I checked and even more on some sites valuations and even VXL's] so accepted and used it to but another. £1k better off.
