Stop/Start Power steering query

When the Stop/Start"system activates, is it normal for the power steering to stop working?

I've experienced this a few times when the system has engaged while I'm slowing down (at around 1-2mph). Subsequently, I've needed to maneuver around a corner, and for a brief moment, less than a second, the lack of power steering has felt a bit dangerous.

Recently purchased a 2022 cupra Ateca and I'm wondering if it's a fault or normal.

There have I recall long term moans about this on Vag cars. Engine cutting out on SS and still rolling at a slow speed. Heavy steering. Ive disabled SS using the voltage method. Some people apparently just wiggle the wheel to get the engine restarted. So yes you would not expect engine cut out whilst still moving but it happens.

@Tell What's the 'Voltage Method' to disable the Stop/Start? - sounds naughty.:LOL:

FYI - I disable the Stop/Start as part of my start up routine by pressing the appropriate button, along with disabling the speed warning and lane assist, pluging in my phone and getting music playing etc.

Thats being too much like a pilot with a flight check list before taking off. Use to catch me about two miles down the road at the first round about after the engine warmed up. Till then its prevented to activate stop start.

The voltage method fakes that the battery needs to be charged up further so you set that at 12v. It thinks I can't activate stop SS.

Lane assist mine remembers it's turned off. Circa 2020 Seat decided to default to lane assist on, you can switch that to remember last. That appeared on the Tarraco, wasnt on my 2017 build.

Will post some links but this is only for the Ateca / Tarraco platform. Mqb Evo Formentor / Leon 4 they upped the anti.

Voltage method

Pass on where the images have gone... one perhaps for @Syphon

Lane assist... on here as Lane Assist remember last

As said other platforms they tightened up the door. Stop start you can get replacement switches for the MQB Evo that do the trick. Lane assist... pass on that.

@Tell

Thanks for the info and update on this. I suspected that the Stop/Start work around might be with OBD11. I can, though, live with pressing the button prior to a journey; been doing it for long enough now.

The Lane Assist and Speed Warning is a pain though.

My two previous Atecas MY21 and MY23, they could be switched off in the infotainment. My, new to me, MY25 has them permanently on and have to be switched off on a journey by journey basis which, as you say, is a bit like a pilot going through pre-flight checks.

You have to check with Obdeleven board to see whether they have a workaround. The NCAP rating directs the safety features so they don't want you defeating them. One they dont like is the OBD port😂.

When I get an EV circa 2030 I dont think I'll be able to code much. Least wont be bothered with SS.
