Strange Lights!!

Hey guys another curve ball thrown at me today,

Right,
When i turn my lights on(headlights) everything works,
I switch down to side lights only one headlight works and my dash lights go off,
Switch everything off then back to sides an everything works again fine.
then to headlights again all fine.

Car has been sitting for over a year in a garage so i am puzzled as to what the cause could be? an why so temperamental??

Any help would be much appreciated.

take the light switch out, prize it out with a flat bladed screwdriver, check the wires and spray it with wd40. my dash lights went out and it turned out to be a faulty switch.

is this with the car running ?

standard 16v twin headlamps ?

hey guys, yeah car running on idle and when just ignition, confused is no longer the word, tried to get the swtch out but its we'll in there an really not wanting a screwdriver hole in the dash

an no i have the headlights off a cordoba on it im pretty sure thats where there from anyways!!

dont just try and get the round button out, you need to get the whole panel out, to the right of the steering wheel, thats got the dimmer switch and light ajuster if you got it fitted.

yea thats the bit ive been trying to get out, does it just finally pop out?? scared dont wanna damage the poor car its got enough battle scars

oh and flapper, had to go to seat uk in the end, they then went to spain and they came back with the part number for the cupra gearknob. i used dinky dave`s reg number as a guide (thanks for that dave) and its ordered. they are still avalible from spain apparently, so we shall see in about a weeks time and i will let you know the out come

Does the rear demistor switch work?

theres a spring loaded clip in the bottom of it holding it in

i have a spare at home somewhere ill get a pic later

it isn't that hard to do to be honest

pull the lower glove box out

reach your left hand up and inside to try and reach the back of the bottom pointed section (see pic)

feel for the clip with your fingertip and push up vertical, not that heavy

mind you i have big hands so my fingers reach

drawn it on in red slightly larger than it is to try and help

as for life of me i cant remember where my spare is i have just taken mine out (takes 10 sec when you know how) and have pics for ya but will have to wait for me to get home to upload em

awsome will give this a stab around 4 when i finish an update here, recon a we clean some wd40 will do it?? car has been sitting for over a year so not been touched untill recently?

if, when you`ve tried wd40 its still the same, try and get hold of a 2nd switch from ebay. there`s plenty to go at, all for afew quid.
