strange noise from my altea

hi all for the past couple of days the altea has a funny squeeking noise coming from the engine its worse when you accelerate and is there on tick over......

we had it mot'ed so i asked the tester he thought it my be something to do with 1 of the tensioners .........is it bad should i burn the car out .....lol

update i had a look under the bonnet today while the engine was running the noise is very loud and seems to be coming from the cambelt a bit worried now .......
i know the cambelt was changed when we brought it last year.....
any idea's people should i keep driving it.......?

It's got to be either the cambelt rollers/tensioner, or the auxiliary (fanbelt) drive belt tensioner/roller. If it is the cambelt running gear then I suspect the shifty garage you bought it from did indeed change the cambelt, but failed to replace the (more expensive) rollers and tensioner. That's a sneaky bloody trick at best, and at worst I'd be doing something with regard to getting them to do it again properly. Although how far you get with that is anyones guess.

For this reason alone I'd rather knock the money off the car and pay seperately to have the cambelt job done. At leats that way you have choice over how its done and what exactly gets done, and then the warranty (if there is one) will be with you and not the garage who did (or didn't) the work in the first place.

Is it safe to drive? Personally I'd drive it to a garage you trust and get them to do an accurate diagnosis, then be driven by their judgement from then on.

thanks buddy i'll give the dealer a ring and see if he can give me a clue as to what they did.....
as to taking it somewhere i trust i'm not sure where to take it but i'll sort it out never the less.....

just got of the fone with the dealer they say that the tensioners are done as well "as a matter of course" ...
just need to sort a garage out think i might have to go to the nearest "dealer"..........gutted

If you are able, take the aux (alt) belt off & start the engine - you'll know which then. If its still doing it with the aux belt off I wouldnt drive it incase the timing belt tensioner/guide bearing has collapsed.

if you have had the belt done by a dealer then you have a years warranty with the belt/tensioners.

the belt was changed as part of the purchase price they use stoke audi so i was told .......

Seat have a 2 year warranty, as do all VAG group. They like to keep it a secret though.

from what i remember it was a cash job but i told the dealer i'd ring back tomorrow when they've had chance to check......

going to book it in with autotechnik of rowley regis tomorrow i'll update as i know stuff thanks for your help...........

well people found out that the problem was a tensioner had failed on the aux belt it aparently was a clutch tensioner and the bearings had failed........anyway it cost £240 inc vat to fix to be fair they (autotechnics) had it this morning at 9.30 and i collected it at 4.30 so not really that bad.......thanks to all the people who gave advice .......hopfuly trouble free driving here i come ..........
