well I keep filming everything, so around my archieves I found this... I know the angle is not great because I was not filming that... so it's laterally, I don't think that makes much difference though!

Yes, definitely lateral in that picture.

Edit:- just to update what I've written so far, this afternoon I checked the old struts that is still in my garage, and the "witness marks" on them proves that these retaining clips had been fitted laterally, so I obviously missed noting that when I took the old struts off!
