stupid window

hi guys
today i went to close the window and there was a big bang and then the window dropped.
have been able to pull up the window and taped it to keep it up and the rain out.
any ideas as to what has gone wrong and how much it will be to fix it

Window regulator for sure, common fault on a lot of VAG cars, think the reg is about 70 quid plus fitting.

thanks for that, is it something that a local garage can do cheaper or is it best getting a main dealer to do it????

Its not hard to do, you will need to get the part from the dealers, but someone else can fit it no problems.
