Hi Guys,

So I have 17cm front speakers, rear 6x9's mounted on parcel shelf powered by a four channel alpine amp and a crap 10" fli active sub that i bought cause i couldn't wait for my next pay cheque.

Finally been paid my bonus at Waitrose so i've been looking into upgrading my sub to a JL (apparently being the best sub makers).

Anyway, i've been looking at JL subs and most are out of my price range new, need to buy a box, a mono amp, and the sub so the sub can't be too expensive!

Found these on ebay;

(please remove stars cause i can't post links yet!)

wondering what you guys thought?

and what best guage wiring kit should i use for a sub amp, i know its all to do with power but was thinking at least 8 probably 4?

I have bought 2 sets of components and a sub in box off ebay with no problems at all!

Don't get peoples 'thing' against ebay, same scammers that appear on ebay use forums too you know

I'm looking for an average between SQ and SPL, thats i chose to go for JL.

Been wondering what would be more useful to have a single 12" or two 10" subs?

Also to get the both of best worlds, what box would be best ported or sealed?

any recommendations would be great :) have a budget of about £250 - 300

JL audio do decent subwoofers mate, you won't be dissapointed JL

Personally I would power one decent 12" over 2 10"

And as for ported or sealed, it really depends on your music tastes.

If I was you personally I would get an RE SE12 powered by a genesis profile sub

i went for single 12 in custom ported enclosure and is decent. really depends on what you prefer to listen to music-wise

as for cables, i'd go for 4-gauge

Alright then so I'm going for a 4-guage wiring kit.

Sub wise i've decided to just go for one 12" right now, can't fit a double enclosure in and its a small car so its pointless spending hundreds on two subs when one can do the job :)

decided on getting a JL 12W0v2 (released in april) and bridging the outputs of a JL2150 with a custom made AutoAcoustics ported box. custom made box is a bit pricey but i guess you pay for what you get

I've got a 12" Diamond D3 it's not overly expensive and sounds good!
I would deffinatly recommend getting one.

What's the price of the custom box and have you gone for it already? I'm only asking as I had a custom box made by a guy on talkaudio.co.uk and the quality of the box is really second to none and sounds amazing and would seriously recommend talking to him if you haven't already gone for one.

ah you're alright then :D

before i got mine made i really wanted a stealthbox. Emailed AA who quoted me over £1k for a custom stealth box...they said they didn't have enough demand to mass produce them for the mk4 so building a 1-off would be time-consuming

chirst 1k? would rather do it myself..and i thought this was costing me alot. They really are taking there time making it though, ordered it on the 30th march and still haven't got it! emailed them last week and they said they'd be delivering it friday or monday. grrrr[:@]

i know mate...in the end got my mates to make me an enclosure, cost me £180 including fitting everything and i'm chuffed with the sound

That is a damn long time! think mine took 3 weeks for it to be built, but then again I picked it up myself. All the wait will be worth it!
