Sudden engine hunting and loss of throttle repsonse

Hi There, I am new to the site as I recently bought a 2006 Ibiza 1.4. When I am at a standstill the car occasionally (every 30 mins or so) starts to hunt and I loose all throttle response. I then have to turn off the engine, leave it for a couple of minutes and when I start it up again it runs fine.

Does anyone know what the cause of this might be? Very frustrating as I only bought it two days ago!

a full service would be a good place to start for things like filters plugs etc, don't trust what anyone has told you if no better a scan would be the next step
