Hi,

I read the forum every day but don't often post.

I have had an Ibiza FR TSi for 3 months. Over the last few days I have found that when I press the accelerator to reverse I can put it down about a third of the way and nothing happens. Then when I gently press it a bit further there is a sudden surge of power and the car lunges back. It happened yesterday and I nearly knocked someone over.

This has only just started and doesn't happen in the forward gears.

I will book it in for Seat to look at but was just wondering if anyone else had experienced it?

Cheers

could be the brakes
my understand is they hold on for a couple of seconds after you release the peadle
*to prevent you rolling back when doing a hill start*

i have noticed it does do it in reverse too but if you apply the throttle as soon as you selected reverse it dosnt do it and is very smooth

sorry if that dosnt make sence!

same thing happened to me today, think Octane has it there as I was on a slight slope so could easily be put down to the hill hold / brakes.

Thanks guys,

I still find it odd though as when it happened yesterday I was on the flat.

At least I know it's not just me. I'll have to keep an eye on it and if it gets worse I'll take it in.

car dosnt know your on a slope or flat, it will holds the brake on for a few seconds regardless
i find if im waiting at the lights and i knock it in to netral then back in to gear when i set off and get on the throttle straight away it dosnt hold the brake on....

where as if i put it in to gear and wait a few seconds, (with foot still on the footbrake) it does hold the brakes on for a few seconds
i find it handy if im waiting at lights on a hill

guess you will have to live with it... or be quicker with the throttle lol

I have just got my FR back after having the gearbox mount changed and i have now noticed i am getting is a combination of rattles and clunks during gear changes and when moving slowly in 2nd and 3rd gears only. after contacting my service manager he has just called me back to say there is a software update for the dsg. the symptoms related to this need for an update are very similar to what my car is doing, and also - loss of power and the car lunging backwards when reversing!

hope this helps. (software update only takes about an hour to do)

Yes it does help, thank you. I'll ring the stealers tomorrow

i was always under the impression that once you remove your foot from the footbrake it automatically holds on the brakes for two seconds whilst you place your foot on the accelerator
