Oh aye after the last time! I was in there for 45 minutes while they deliberated over the computer screen. Then they insisted that I had to put 5w40 oil in it and i've been running it on the wrong oil and have probably done some damage because it takes "special oil" for the turbo...
I'm like it's a mk2

I think if it rounds off or breaks you'll have far worse troubles than simply getting a new sump plug!

I'd head over to a dealer for this sort of thing, any money that you might save on Ebay will be spent on postage so it's probably not worth the effort. Especially if it might be the wrong one when it arrives.

True, I guess I was more thinking about it shearing. But an accurate weld could sort that as well. Or even one of those screw out drill bits if the head is gone.

It does just puzzle me why there are so many sump plug incidents, its only a simple bolt of a standard size that should be torqued up to a set value. I guess it is just one more reason why I do my own servicing. Why on earth would any garage round off a bolt, surely that's incompetence? OK, the bolt breaking isn't exactly predictable, but not swinging on the wrench while doing it up will certainly help there.

Sorry, rant over, back to the original post now.

Thanks guys, I think I shall pop into the dealers tomorrow. Also need to order a centre cap which they said would be £17 as I didn't realise the front rights been missing since I got it

The thickness of the sump plug bolt you aren't going to shear it on the sump! Think the plug was £9 from the dealers.... same as the VR6 ;)

And they can seeze due to the heat that is produced inside the engine and sump and if the previous person decided to have his weetabix that morning and over tighten it!

If anything you would just need to change the copper washer..... as long as the threads are okay and since it isn't on & off everyday you shouldn't really need to change it!

Maybe if you fussy do it once a year. Save the £9 and buy your 2 pints on the weekend for the work you did servicing your own car :D
