I'm an offshore drilling electrical maintenance technician working on an offshore platform. My employer is a very big American oil company.

Work 2 weeks (14 days, 12 hour shifts) then home for 3 weeks (21 days)

Offshore2/3onshore

Only work 4 months of they year :)

Your job sounds so much cooler than mine... :(
I knew I should have gone down the engineering route instead of this stupid IT sh**. I hate computers.

Your good at fixing them though bud :p

actually...I'm not anymore.

I don't even use a pc/laptop that isn't maintained by my work.

We were looking at replacing our dead one and the latest specs mean arse-all to me now.
"Can it run my browser without being slow?" ...I'm getting old.

I deal with systems that I never see now :) haha. I know a lot about massive enterprise systems that I'd probably walk right past without recognising them hahaha

IT is rather rubbish these days! Although iPad 4, iPhone 4S and iMac for free is always a winner lol There is a theme with my work...

Shame I think Apple is crap!

I feel better :)

It has some perks....looking to see how much PX's where brought in at and using it as a weapon when buying a car. Plus not long back I could have had brand new 10 mile (full leather) supercopas for £17k however i had just bought my car so had missed out on that :-(

Is it a dangerous job?

Is it a dangerous job?

Depends what you mean by dangerous mate? We fly in/out on choppers. We sit on what "can" become a ticking time bomb. H+S is such a major importance though. Drilling electrical maintenance has it's usual risks etc. but everything is risk assessed P to W etc

Come on then Darth....don't keep us in suspense....
It's been 1.5 hours, you should have had your phone out by now and giving us an update!
