Not been on for a while but thought I'd let you all know I'm swapping my 7 month old 2.0 FSi for the oil burner!

I've bought a new house which will mean a 80 mile round commute a day to work. After some maths and based on my old man's Golf 2.0 TDi mpg figures in 3 months I would be saving around £50-60 a MONTH if I changed - which is just daft. My FSI has averaged 30mpg in total since new compared to my old man's 47mpg!) So financially it makes sense.

So had a chat with my dealer on Friday and he has offered me a pre-registered 2.0 TDI Reference Sport in metallic Silver for £12988 - £2k plus saving on book price!

They've offered £11,500 for mine (7k miles).

So for £10 a month more I'm getting a brand spanker oil burner - which to me sounds pretty resonable.

I'm going for the 18" Seat alloys this time!

So all you TDi's folk out there, good move?

Where's the best place to get it chipped!?!

Very good move

TDI is ace. Had mine three months and saved so much money on fuel over my previous Scooby Impreza WRX. I was also pleasantly suprised how driveable the diesel is. In a run over some of my favourite roads the TDI was happy to sit in 5th whereas I would have been up and down the Scooby box to keep momentum.

Just thinking about having the Revo treatment now (see posts today). If you beat me to it,do let me know how it goes!

Deals done - pick the TDi up on Friday complete with the 18" alloys and Uniroyal Rainsport 1 tyres (225x40's for just £77 each - easily cheaper than anywhere else I've tried - even the web!). The alloys are those that come with the 'aero bodykit' - not a great fan of the bodykit but the wheels are uber cool!.

Also done a bit of digging about for the engine upgrades - Star Performance in Fife have proved the most reasonable on price. They need the car for an hour to plug it in and do the re-map - rolling road test results afterwards they have done with A3 and Golfs often see the power up at 190BHP!! Generally around 180-185BHP - all for £499.

Beats spending an extra £4.5k for new FR plus there's 15bhp more!

Well folks, picked up the new TDi on Friday afternoon and swiftly went on a sojourn up to the highlands for 3 days!

The 18" alloys were shod with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tyres and managed to get away without forking out additional funds for them - delighted as they are a fecking great tyre!

First things first - I'll admit I was a staunch petrolhead for years but can honestly say that this 2.0 TDi engine is an absolute gem. The thing absolute flys - completely and utterly converted. Did over 500 miles in 3 days and averaged 47mpg - amazing.

I've read various thoughts on the ride quality being worse with bigger wheels and low profile tyres but I have to say that in this case the ride quality is better......by a country mile. Don't know whether it's the better quality tyres or what but I'm gobsmacked at the difference.

What I've also noticed is this Leon seems to be better screwed together. Have SEAT had a chance to work on this on the production line perhaps since the model was first released? There are no squeaks, the doors shut sweeter and everything just feels sorted.

I'll post a few pics tommorrow.
