N75

Think my N75 valve is dead/dying.

Spoke to El today round Darren's and it's near identical symptoms. Under load in 4th, 5th and 6th I can hear the a weird whooshy noise, almost like a flutter but it sounds nearer like the DV sort of hissing and chattering away..

El replaced his N75 valve and now it has gone on his. So I think I'll get a new one ordered up. Boost is going higher than usual too in those gears which is odd.

Matt I've not long changed mine, the one you want is 06A 906 283E

Thanks Rich :D That's the correct one Matt.

Put this into ebay, 320857645910, this is the one I got.

Looking good :p , stealth ftw :D

Haha, it's personal preference dude. Leave them in if you want to, don't have to commit like me lol.

I don't run a cold air feed, but I may do in the near future. Run it down to the fog from the groove in the front of the Jabba heatshield. 80mm should do the trick. But I'm not expecting it to make much difference if any tbh..

cheers mate i ll av to get one as car dont seem right hasnt since went stage2 feel andsounds like u said yours does, amd said there was nothing wrong but deffnetly aint right

Tom, I'd suggest you get a boost leak test done before changing any more parts. I changed the N75, various springs in DV, tried three different types of DV and changed the suction jet pump all to try to get rid of a very similar sounding noise to the one you describe.

Thanks to Yohan87 and his boost leak test kit it turns out that in my case it's the intake air temp sensor that's leaking. I'd never have thought of that one myself. If your N75 was shot it wouldn't be boosting right, not just making a slightly funny noise. Get a pressure test done before splashing any more cash on this.

No probs mate, let me know how you get on. :)

Cheers for the post mate. I think though mine is the N75. Mainly because I don't have a boost leak code at all and the last time it was smoke tested it was air tight.

It doesn't boost properly in 4th mate, it's started overboosting almost, like something is allowing it to spike and go erratic under WOT. Where is the intake air temp sensor? So did you replace it and has it stopped the fluttering noise under WOT in 4th upwards?

Cheers mate.

Sounds like my problem. I only mentioned the IAT sensor by way of example - it would never have occurred to me to check that, I changed a few things speculatively and they didn't help. I haven't changed the IAT sensor but it's definitely leaking so will be changing that (or at least the o-ring on it) ASAP.

If your N75 was shot you would be getting fault codes I'd have thought - think about it, the N75 is "before" the MAP sensor in terms of the charge circuit. If you're getting weird boost and no boost-related fault codes then chances are whatever is at fault is after the MAP sensor since it's the MAP actual reading vs. what the ECU thinks it is making (based on MAF reading, load etc.) that flag boost-related fault codes.

Just saying, even if it came up fine last time you had it pressure tested then do it again before changing loads of stuff.

Interesting reading mate and I can see your point... although it's too late now I've ordered a new N75, lol. It cured El's issue which was near enough exactly what I have.

I'll get the N75 on, test it out and if it's still there I'll be coming back to this post, LOL.

Yeah it was EL's suggestion that made me change the N75 too - if your's doesn't fix it then we should start billing him for these things ;)

If the N75 doesn't fix it then chances are it'll be a newer part number than the one on the car now - mine was, my car is a little newer than yours (55-plate). Not sure what the benefits are but I guess there's always a little peace of mind in changing a part for a newer revision :) If it doesn't fix the issue then check for boost leaks.

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr hang on...........hahaha

Mine was over boosting like mad remember gents and only then was this flutter noise was happening. Was over boosting so much that the car was hitting limp mode and when scanning on VAGCOM I was getting the boost upper limit exceeded code which was a big sign that the N75 was on and off. At the start it was happening on and off but progressively got worse. Now that it was changed the car is running perfectly.

Interesting find on the intake air temp sensor, I too would not have thought about that at all to go and cause such problems. Will bare it in mind. Too many bloody sensors with these cars!
