What wrong with RS5 gearbox? Car had rave reviews...

I was diehard manual when I was looking for my 335 but when I realised they dont come in manual (gear boxes cant handle the torque reliably) and had to have an auto I was pleasantly surprised. Very smooth gear changes, changes up and down when you want to the car and then when you want to be an old man you can put the car in auto or sport auto.

Of course I do get your point. Just depends how good the gearboxes are in the car you are buying.

I'm sure they're great when they work but I like the manual stick method, just feels a bit more visceral. There's obviously more stuff to (potentially) go wrong in these semi-auto setups too - expensively wrong. *EDIT* - there's also the extra servicing costs too.

I've read great reviews of the RS5 but I've also read some slightly negative ones and those that criticised it did so based on the transmission. I'd have one in a heartbeat if it came in a manual option, the car looks awesome and it's got *that* engine...

Cheers for the input and worthwhile debate guys. All helps :)

I'm going to hook up a test drive soon I feel, and probably the paddle shift box to see what it's like as I've never driven one.

Oldish design or not, the S3's still look fresh enough to me. BMW 3 Series, Golf's, 911's - all using a basic template design now for years and just growing on it year by year, why? Because that formula works, and they know it sells. Low risk strategy yes, but it's a winning one and always will be. The A3 is the same. It's a German car thing, but we know the can be pretty sensible when it comes to a new version of car ;)

It's a fairly subtle, understated car the S3, but can cover the ground really quick with great ease, which is what I want tbh. Quattro is something I've been after for a long time too. It'll be nice to have that traction with the wheels planted to give good exit speed from the twisty stuff. I will aim for the 360-370bhp mark at REVO stage 2+ with all the big mods in place. Chassis will be left untouched tbh. If I can find a nice stage 2+ example for sale, I'll probably get that than start over again with stage 2+ mod prices staring me in the face...

I drove my car back from Bluewater tonight and it still amazes me how quick the needle moves when your in 5th and 6th on the motorway, really pulls hard. It still gives me lots of joy this car :)

I had considered the latest Focus RS as a replacement, ask DK about our conversation about them a few nights back. Only thing is the price is still too high and I don't think I could spend all that cash on a Ford tbh. Good car though!

I think a stage 2+ S3 will be more than quick enough for me. Standard 0-60 is around 5.4 seconds and this is with 265bhp at standard tune... 360-370 will be pretty epic from a stand still I would have thought.. Let alone mid to top end pull that everyone raves about with other stage 2+ cars, i.e mk2 Cupras.

Tiny update..

Free screws turned up from Dave @ Sere, fast delivery as usual. Can't praise the guy enough really!! Always served me well.

Still making progress on the car despite deciding next year will be my last with her.

Stuck in the missing plastic screw just to tidy things up a bit, looks much better in my OCD eyes now  The bay could do with a good clean but not sure I will now till after winter lol..

I hate those stupid clips, no matter how careful you are when taking them off your bound to break one or two grrrr!!

Yep! Rubbish weak plastic clips but they go in very easy :)

Are you missing any El? I've got 3 or 4 spare :)

Ooooo I need one of them, I'm the same I broke one taking it out.

How much were they?

FOC for me mate. I got 5 in a pack but only needed one :)

If you've been a good customer to Dave before he may send these out in the same way for you dude ;)

When I fitted my FMIC heated those clips with a hair drier before I took them out, the day I did it it snowed so they were pretty cold :D

I can think of nicer things to do in the snow mate... fitting FMIC's comes way down on the list lol.

Cool, iv bought a few things off them over 100 quids worth anyway

Should be ok then mate. Give Dave a call or pm, I'm sure you'll be fine :)

As you can see in the pic, I checked my oil today and it's a bit on the low side.

My oil was done back in Jan and 5w 30 fully synth was used.

I just want to know and get some views on what everyone else uses in their Cupra R's?

If you think thats dirty you should see mine.
I normally wait until ECP or somewhere have their 30% off codes or something and get it and a filter then, keeps the me from feeling completely raped that way

Hmm let me know of any bargainous places for some Castrol then matey.

Quick and slightly rubbish video I took tonight around some back roads on the way home from my mates. You don't get to see the road the video is all for the noise really..

Still find this car very savage! Especially now it's getting colder, the car gets faster :)

Was great fun and the car sounds the dogs, I love it. P.S sorry about my music I had on, didn't realise it was that loud, lol. Can't beat driving to some trance.
