My clutch arrived yesterday from Awesome GTI, great service from them as per usual and Al in particular, top man to deal with!!

Impressed by the quality of the kit, can't wait to get it fitted.

My Forge 008 arrived too, and I got in the garage after work tonight, whacked the yellow spring in it and got it fitted

Took the car for a quick test drive but didn't open it fully up, felt a bit more responsive lower down so what I've been hearing seems true.... The chamber size is more compact than the 007 which is said to aid responsiveness. The next proper drive I give the car is likely to be quite an experimental one so I'll comment more then... Seeing as I'll probably have the diff fitted then.

So getting onto that, latest is that the Wavetrac LSD and gearbox are on their way down from Willie up in Scotland and should be arriving at my mates garage tomorrow. They'll be inspected over and then it's a case of getting my car up there and getting it all fitted!

The car feels epic at the moment, pulls so hard and just doesn't want to let off! Still, more work to do as the hunt for perfection continues...

Nice gearbox that - I drove it a few times including round Knockhill when it was attached to his car. Still can't believe he has stripped it and sold all the bits.

I have a Wavetrac ne in my MK2 and can confirm it is ace. Just be careful when driving the car in the wet because steering becomes useless when you wheel spin, especially on a corner.

Thanks Al That's good to know! I don't expect much less from Willie and Vince who re-conditioned the box for him, I've only heard good things.

I know it's mad he's gone ahead and stripped it but these parts need to live on in other Leon's so I had to make the move for them as it's a fair old saving on the £££..

Good to see more people running Wavetrac's. After speaking to a few people I realised this was the only one I wanted, but I'm not saying the Quaife is a bad bit of kit either. My friend who has a Revo stage 2 LCR has the Wavetrac and he told me exactly that about the behaviour of the car in the wet with it fitted. I'll have to learn the car again in the twisty stuff, probably won't be doing the first drive in the rain if it can be helped..

The standard one can take some abuse to be fair and there's nothing like 'standard feel' to a pedal... See how it goes mate you might be ok for a good while yet.

The 008 is a good bit of kit as you'd expect from Forge. Can't say whether it's better than the 007 yet until I've racked up some more mileage... Felt good on the short drive last night though

I actually had the wavetrac and box in the old Leon - before Willie got his. I haven't any reason to complain about it at all. On the track, the car pulls nicely and cleanly out of corners and if there is wheelspin, you know you will have catapulted past the point you would have been past if you never had the diff

Handling isn't worse in the wet with a diff.

Basically, on an open diff, wheelspin happens quicker as the wheel with less traction gets the power and ends up spinning uselessly. The wheel with traction helps to steer the car as the other spins.

With the Wavetrac, the wheel with the most traction gets the most drive which means it takes longer to spin as both wheels will break traction at close to the same time and when it does, it doesn't really matter where the front wheels are pointing if you keep the foot down as the car will go the direction momentum is taking it.

Basically you would need to use caution when pushing on in the wet and let off a bit to stop wheelspin if you want the steering to work

That's the hope - that it's already past the point pre diff even when the wheels do let go a bit

I'm not sure about 'worse' in the wet, but tbh I can't comment until I've driven mine with it fitted and seen what it's like. I know what mine is like now for sure I've pushed it pretty hard in the rain before but it clung on alright, lol.

You should get some trackdays going on with the stretched tyres fitted mate

The Split R will be ok if it's setup right and working fine now. A 007/008 would work better for the car as it's full recirc. I don't think a Split R will ever work aswell as them tbh mate. If it was me I'd sell the Split R and get a nice shiney new 008. Awesome GTI will do it cheaper than Forge. You get a nice Forge fanboy keyring too, aswell as the green, yellow and blue springs. So you're all setup with the yellow spring for stage 2 from the off.

Get rid of the split-R, I had one and the difference between that and the 007 is night and day, if you want noise fit a cone or mod your airbox, the increased boost will make the 007 or 008 sing

All very helpful, and gives me a good idea what to expect with the diff! I better learn to back off sometimes..

Liking the sound of more grip and go than spinning up the wheels constantly in 1st. That's just rubbish for tyre replacement costs every 4 or 5 months! Really can't wait now.

Soooooo..... it's arrived! All the way from Scotland Big thanks to Willie for being great to deal with and allowing me to take this gearbox and Wavetrac LSD off his hands!

D.K has come up with a good suggestion of getting the gearbox painted in black before it's fitted... Now this is a very tempting idea I must say.

It only arrived at my mates garage today so I haven't seen it all in person yet. But I have the clutch sitting at home so it's all systems go one day soon now..

Cannot wait to get this all fitted and take the car for a good drive!
