Tacho Problems?

Hoping you guys could help?

About a week ago I started my car (IBIZA 130PD) to find the Tacho wasn't working! Car started with no problems, I then tuned the engine off and on a few times, hoping that it would reset itself, but no joy. All I was getting was slight twitches in the needle. Later that day on my way home from work it then started working whilst driving, which i found abit odd.

It had been working fine ever since. Then yesterday the problem happened again lost it completely. Turned the engine off and on and it now reads on the dash, 1400RPM when its idling normally. The tacho then works, but with an offset of around 500RPM.

Has anyone seen this before? Or anyone know of a way to cure it?

Cheers

Cheer for the link

Yeh! Ouch, thats what i was thinking . Popped down to see someone with a VAG COM this afternoon.

First of all he said that there were no errors in the dash or ECU then did an output test on the dash and obviously due to the offset. It spun round so far it went over the LCD Trip display. He said in 23 Years of working with VAG stuff he had never seen that.

He advised me to speak to a Seat Dealer! At this point im thinking "How's my bank balance looking at the minute? " He said it probs needs a need instrument cluster and perhaps new Keys due to the immobiliser? is this true?

Also I was thinking about tryin to open the dash up myself and have a look at how accesable the needle is. I mean its only a stepper motor that turns the needle! Any one ever opened it up?

Not too far away
Keys should be fine the dash can be recoded so it matches...

If your out of warranty nothing to loose by giving it a prod... Its almost like the needle has slipped on its spline if you are getting offset full scale movement
