i just took all the rear seats out today, space saver wheel, parcel shelf, everything out of the back and now it really is tail happy since all the weight is at the front. just makes it more fun

taking a roundabout at 20mph wouldn't cause the backend to slide out

If you have poor tyres, throw the car in and step off the accelerator (or brake), then possibly, yes.

Worn dampers may not be helping (I'm just speculating there).

Try some Goodyear Eagle F1s - I had them on mine for the best part of three years and not once did the rear end surprise me.
