Taking apart cigarette lighter..

Hi all, so I've just been to the scrappys today to see if I could take the center console out of a cordoba as mine is busted. Got it all out then discovered someone had just smash some screw tabs off where the heating dial panel is to get it off so its useless.

All I managed to get of use is one of the orange cigarette lighters.

My car is the 95 pre-facelift 1.4 and it just has a hole in the ashtray where it goes. The problem is, the unit has a big bit stuck on the side which houses the led. How do I dismantle the cigarette lighter so I can fit it into the hole?


Also, I tried wiring a maplins cigarette lighter in (hardwire) but it won't work.. I used those clip things for sharing a wire (forgot their name) and took a random red wire and random brown for the live and ground. I also stuck a 10A inline fuse on the live but it wont work. Any idea why it won't work?

Figured it out. I was trying to undo all these plastic clips, etc. then realised you just prise down from the black ring around the top!

Just need to know how to hardwire it up and why there's 3 wires now please

Hi guys,

Pretty similar problem really! I am trying to fit a cheap little lighter into my basic model Ibiza Estillo. It didn't even have one as standard so I've had to pop out the little hole place where it is meant to be.

I am not sure what wires to connect it up to, I have tried messing a bit, but as I don't know what I'm doing I thought I would post and see if anyone knew any better ideas?

I need to know which the live wire or ignition is?
Which one is the lighting wire?
Do I need to connect all three to something for it to work?

I know I need to earth it too - Why they always give you such a short earth wire is beyond me, but hey.

Are there any wiring diagrams available for this ibiza model?

Any help much appreciated!
