I have been trying to find some decent external door sill covers for some time but the only ones fitting the Tarraco seemed to be those ghastly Tiguan (with the lettering and all, bleurgh) that frankly didn't look at all good quality-wise either.

Finally, though, some decent ones popped up on eBay (they are relatively expensive, I know, but you get what you pay for) so I am now able to cover the extensive scratching (I blame the kids all the way here) and have some protection at least.

Will see how they fare longevity wise but the inners have remained in very good nick (they are also high-grade, quality aluminium) so I am hopeful.

Hi!

I was thinking about buying and implementing the gas strut from AliExpress, but @t_v 's experience made me reconsider.

So, after some little research I have identified the VW Tiguan Allspace (which, as you probably already know, is about the same car as the Tarraco) gas strut part number: 5NA823359A.

The only catch is that our Tarraco doesn't have the ball stud on the bonnet. For that I have used a common gas strut ball stud. I had one lying around from changing a strut in my kitchen cabinets, but you shouldn't have problems finding one at your local home depot/furniture accessories shop.

Also, the 8E0823359 gas strut is compatible. Only difference is that it's 23mm longer, but it was a lot cheaper (bought Stabilus, which is OEM, I think).

Installed it today and works just great! 😁

I haven't spent time with my baby recently (the car, not any of my kids :) ) but I got my hands on a 3D printer and managed to print "away" some of my longstanding gripes.

The first was the third-row seatbelt placeholders, no amount (or quality) of industrial-strength 3M double-sided tape could keep the aftermarket clips in place so something somewhere had to give.

I found this guy who had some ready-made 3D designs publicly available and just downloaded and printed away.

I was not prepared to cut the existing clips so instead repurposed two of the previous ones et voila. Next step is to sort a small wedge to ensure they don't slide out but until someone disturbs them they are solidly in place with the current setup.

I have updated the first post for those of us who don't have wireless CarPlay/Android Auto with the most recent Carlinkit (5.0).

Significant difference from 4.0, loading (CarPlay) is around 15 seconds (from 25-30) and stability is great (no drops or freezes in the couple of weeks I have used it).

In the settings make sure 5Ghz is set for the wifi and a channel further up the range so that it doesn't suffer from interference.

Edit: I put the 4.0 in my daughter's KIA Picanto (I use it for my daily commute until she gets her driver's licence :)) and CarPlay loads in 10 seconds max and hasn't frozen or dropped once. Goes to show how poor the VW/SEAT infotainment implementation is when the entry-level KIA is beating it hands down in performance and stability when using exactly the same external hardware.

Another gripe of mine has been the lack of wireless charging (except the lucky ones to buy the First Edition when the Tarraco first came out back in 2019).

I have tried different things, in the end I found a solution with the Connects2 CTQIUV03, however that was OK with my older iPhone (XS Max) which was slim, the most recent 15 Pro Max is however much thicker and it won't slot in without causing damage to either the phone case or the charger.

I looked at various solutions, mainly the flat ones that go in the little shelf but they were all either underpowered or caused the phone to overheat. I hadn't realised up to that point that MagSafe was a thing with iPhones but apparently it is and it proved extremely useful. I decided on the ESR HaloLock Wireless Car Charging Set with CryoBoost and then went off to the (3D Printing) races.

I have a friend who is a 3D CAD specialist and she designed it for me (I couldn't do it myself), I will get the design and upload it, you can adapt it to your own charger, et voila:

I have made one for my daughter's KIA (also doesn't have wireless charging) and it works a treat there as well.

Happy printing!

I have already upgraded my wheels to 19" but have also always liked the MY21-> wheels with the 255/40/20 tyres and have been trying to find some decent ones to upgrade to for some time.

I was lucky and managed to get a very decent set. The rim is the Audi Sport 83A601025E 20" 8.5J ET38 5x112 wearing Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 255/40/R20.

The tyres are surprisingly good and have a very handy rim protector, will be replaced though with some Pilot Sport All Season 4s.

P.S Anyone who wants to upgrade their wheels, as long as the spec is as per service guide D4B8089A3B1 (Erwin SEAT is your friend) then you are good to go. Don't forget to inform your insurer.

P.S.2 The CRATERs the Audi Sport bad boys have replaced are for sale here.

Update on an accessory fitted earlier in the ownership of my baby: the AliExpress pedal covers lasted about 18 months altogether before falling apart.

First went the gas pedal cover after about 12 months (it never fitted properly anyway and the rubber sleeve just split one day) and then a week ago the clutch cover started making a shrieking noise every time it was pressed. I took it out and the rubber underneath the (wafer-thin) stainless steel upper layer has become completely brittle and is coming apart. I also checked the brake pedal cover and it is the same (just less wear because it is not used as much as the clutch).

The moral of the story is that anything susceptible to heavy wear and tear needs to be quality so went OEM this time. I managed to source the Audi 8V2064200 Pedal Cap Set from Germany (fully compatible with the Tarraco) and the difference in quality (and fit) is night and day. Put them in (tip: the gas pedal cover is super fiddly and needs to be "slid in" from the bottom) and couldn't be happier.

There are different part nos for the same set for the other VAG brands: 5E1064200 (Skoda), 5Q0721131A / 5Q0721601A / 5Q1721647A (SEAT).

P.S. I know the gas pedal cover is upside down but that was the only way it would go in!

It is a gimmick but the end product looks good (IMHO) and gives an FRish look without breaking the bank: VW Tiguan MK2 2017-2023 Rear Roof Spoiler Body Kit. The double-sided tape provided is not enough so you will need a tad of extra high-end automotive from your stash. Remains to be seen whether it lasts and doesn't fly off when on the Autobahn in the summer at 135mph :).

I am uncertain about the side spoilers (I bought them anyway as part of the kit) as a) they need cutting as the Tiguan rear window is bigger and b) the FR doesn't have them so it spoils the overall aesthetic (there is a reason they didn't end up in the final FR design me thinks). Once I cut them and model them I will revisit this post.
