It doesn't sound right, but I have to check and think about it for a while.
Generally, if it's reading more air than it's going to inject more fuel.

Exactly what I thought,,,

Mojo, I was talking about the MAF, not the MAP.

My 51reg 110 TDi has suffered both intermittent loss of power at 4000+ rpm and loss of power throughout the rev. range at various times. Many visits to dealers one of whom has sold out for a block of flats, the second tried to get £400 for damaged front suspension (caused by road humps he said). Believe me there is no damage!
Just got the car back from two days of diagnostics and third day fitting new turbocharger. Goes like a lead balloon now - like a bootful of paving stones.
It's going back Monday and I've twisted the forepersons arm until they've agreed to check the MAF which I asked for in the first place.
They told me that SEAT have issued a new routine to identify the reasons for the losses of power so many TDi's seem to suffer and mine was the first they had done it on. Pity it didn't help! What I don't understand was the car had been out on a road test and was presumably satisfactory. When I took it away it was awful but I had things to do or it would have been a U-turn job.
Anyway all on Warranty and am I glad I got the fourth year.
By the way my knowledgeable friend who has his own car maint/repair business warns me to mark the existing MAF as a favourite trick is to wash them in CTC which gets them going for a while, but it gets less effective each time. Problem is there does not appear to be a direct indication of a failed MAF in the VAG COM diagnostics - it only indicates that the airflow volume is well under the required amount. So you have a problem explaining to an idiot so-called mechanic at the franchise that he really needs to fit a NEW one.

yeah - won't show up as a fault code unless it's disconnected sadly

but yup - the only way is to measure peak air flow. hard to prove indeed

Warwick.........Do the pull the connection out trick and ride around untill you get the flashing lets , then just before you go to the steelaship connect it back up and drive it straight in.
They seem to respond very well to this , something to do with most of the managers being old X disco dancers........you know the type open shirts and hairy chests with porno tash.

So the saga continues with a regular Monday visit to the Dealer. Last Monday the mechanic says the diagnostics indicate MAF Sensor failure. EUREKA! . Next Monday I get the new MAF fitted. Anything special to look out for anyone?
Incidentally I really couldn't tell the difference when I ran with the MAF unplugged - which presumably confirms it was totally dead. Too late for more CTC eh?

Monday's the day....

Good advice, a job for the nail varnish (not mine). I'll ask for the replaced part but I bet I don't get it!

Fixed at last

My crippled Leon 110TDi lives again! Another two days in the workshop revealed the need for a replacement N75 (I think) Dump Valve(?) to add to the new Turbo of three weeks ago and the new Mass Air Flow Sensor of two weeks ago. I am hoping everything that can go wrong has now done so. Fingers etc. are going numb but I'm not uncrossing them just yet.
Thanks for your suggestions and opinions guys.

Just had a m8 of mine told by the steelaship that he needs a new turbo, i've told him to change n18/n75 and all should be good.
His prob was limp mode at anything over half throttle,i'll see him this week to see if that has sorted it.

110 miss behaviour

My 110 Passat seems to pull ok around 1500-2300 then goes flat and comes back again at 3100. It also feels like it would struggle to get to 100 mph. Sometimes it has felt better than others though which I can't get my head around and in first and second gears the car performs in a totaly different manner to third and fourth. Obviously the gear ratio difference will have some effect but the car feels punchy in 1 + 2 then 3rd just feels flat and lathargic.

Any thoughts? C+R said the MAF seemed fine! I'm not too sure
