Is it wise to get a remap only, and not upgrade clutch etc?

generally if you get a good remap which wont put too much torque through at low revs and also you dont drive like a loony, drive sensibly then it should be ok, but eventually i would imagine you are going to need one, sooner than if it was standard.

a previous owner has had something done to mine as a roling road shows 185 bhp , and about 210lb torque

would this be a chip or remapped , how can i tel, and i thing the cluch is slipping a bit

its the 150 cupra

whats the best clutch to get when needing to replace it , also want to change the dump valve or wastegate not sure whats best DV or WG

cheers

You'll be fine on the stock clutch with just a remap.

Sorry would have to disagree, The clutch is a week point in the car to start of with. I had a full custom map with the torque limited to 304lbft and 500 miles later the clutch began to give. And once it goes it only gets worse.

Id say its a combination of factors, mainly how you drive, if you like using the torque and going to make full use of the remap, then soon or later you will get slip.

My advice, if you can afford it go for a allard clutch plate, i think around the £180 mark, and a remap.

Well I'm running more than just a remap on the standard clutch and have had no clutch slip at all. I don't hammer from 1500rpm though ever and am not a torque wave rider. So Ya I agree it has a lot to do with driving style. However a just a stage 1 remap alone should not destroy the clutch on a 150.

I hope you mean 310lb torque if not someone has ripped you off.
Allards sell a friction plate which is much cheaper than a clutch and does the job up to stage 2.

i got a 130 mapped to 185 with 320lb ft one month later slipped

Clutch is a weak point so if you get a remap then expect it to go.

My clutch has actually held but like everyone says it will go so I am expecting it to so it wont come as a surprise.

I'm sure ive read elksewhere that once the clutch starts going changing the friction plate makes no difference ... i may be wrong though and if i am i would love to know as just changing the plate seems like a better idea due to the massive price difference. Any pointers on this would be very much appreciated.

those figures don't look right....max bhp at 6000rpm for a deisel engine that is std? should be more like 4k..i would have thought the rev limiter would have cut in by 5.5k?
