TDi FR 150

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if some of you knowledgable Seat enthusiasts could answer a few questions for me??

Is the BHP higher than the stated 150?

What can you chip them to?

Do they handle well?

Any other information that might help me as I'm going to test drive one tomorrow.

I have a Leon TDI150.
I am not sure they have more than 150bhp. Some people say yes but...
You can chip it up to 190-200 without any problem (mine soon!! ) to go higher, you may have problems with the clotch

What can you chip them to? As above, expect between 15 and 25% improvement

Do they handle well? Depends on what you're used too. They don't handle badly, put it that way.

I am from Belgium and I am going to do it there. It costs about 300pounds with a go on the RR before and after the chip.

As I have experience of all of those cars I can confirm that you won't be disappointed with it, though you will be familiar with it's characteristics.

Hi mate its a nice car but the handling is a bit sloppy, Smooth progressive performance but feels a bit dated.

On smooth roads. Factor in a few bumps and pot holes and you will need firmer dampers to match.

Having gone from a Corrado G60 to a Leon FR TDi 150 I love it, and My g60 was tuned! the TDi is standard

My missus has a Golf TDI 100, feels heavy and far less refined than the FR, The Clutch is soooooooooo heavy its untrue.

Thats cos the Golf GT is coming out soon (170 BHP TDI, same as the New Leon FR TDI)

Rewind back to October last year and I was in a similar position to you. Had a re-mapped Golf 1.8t, decided to go back to a diesel and fancied a change anyway. Looked at the Leon FR TDI (having had a Leon Cupra a few years back) as there were a few brand new ones being offered for 15k, but none of the deals on P/X were any use to me, well below book. Tried out a few nearly new Golf GT TDI 140s and although I was not unimpressed by them, indeed they are very accomplished cars, they had no soul and nor did they feel any more special than a 1.6 Golf apart from being a little bit quicker.
Had the SEAT Revolutions deal on the FR been avialable, or even if I had known it was coming up I would have bitten a SEAT dealers hand off and bought an FR+......but it was not the case, so I bought a Fabia vRS as it has a bit of character, has a certain something about it to drive, and was considerably cheaper than either of the above. I haven't really looked back, but I'm not suggesting you buy a vRS, merely stating the GT TDI doesn't have any more character than a base model Golf, and would need a fair few quid spending on it to make it a bit special. Still, a deal is a deal.....

The PD engines do remap lovely!!!!
All of them do have superb returns.
But with most cars once you have had the remap then you want to improve the handling and then the brakes.
Yes I would agree you are better modding a car you like to the way you want it to run.
It is nice to have a standard car , but then so have many many other people.
So get one and do it up to your specifications!!!
Like remap for the engine www.custom.code.co.uk as this is so smooth on the PD`s.
Then do the suspension possibly coilovers and then the brakes.
There is the 312 brake upgrade that is going on on this forum.
You could then even go for alloys if that is your thing.
Not mine personally , but this is the best thing about modding your car.
It is individual to you.
